The advantage of mask-less CN films had been described within the world of aerial reconnaissance and surveying. Today you may take a different view on this.
My sense is that the desire for a mask-less C41 film we see most often here comes from an expectation that such a product would be easier to evaluate visually and scan for the purposes of creating photographs with nice colours.
I don't think that that expectation is well founded.

But is that statement in reference to general purpose photographic films?
When was the last general purpose Agfa manufactured colour negative film manufactured?

Thinking about this more, this actually makes sense. Any given color needs to be digitized as a RGB pair, having an orange mask applied over the image is going to force colors to shift at the very least slightly.

Can you still print maskless color negs with standard RA4 chemistry?
 
I think the major scanning issue was the added density by the mask.

The recent maskless films were designed for C-41 and thus could be easily printed on RA-4 by just adding a substitute mask. This was either achieved by putting in the lighting beam a special filter or just a piece of large, unexposed but processed masked C-41 film.

As AgX explained, you need to have an orange mask added to the light source to print a maskless negative onto RA4 paper.
The easiest way to do this is to put a clear piece of masked (unexposed) negative above the unmasked negative and it should print like a standard C41 negative. (Obviously, there needs to be some colour correction done)
 
and unmasked Negative will likly have some funky colour crossover issues, which is what the mark is designed to correct.
 
Agfa stated that they countered by other means the inherent dye-deficiencies in current chromogenic films, that otherwise necessitate the mask.
But as stated here already, those maskless films of today were aimed primarily at a market not critical at colour hues, as long as their are consistent.
