I still think they should have started with a film faster than 100 if capable of it. There is NO other competition left in new film, just remaining stock of Provia 400X. With a 100 speed film they are going head to head with Provia 100 and Velvia 100. If it's significantly different than either of those (lower contrast like Astia would be my hope) it may stand out, otherwise they'd have to compete on price.

Agree, but not 400, it would probably be grainy, maybe 200 or 250 would be better.

Oh we'll, either way I can't wait to try some out!

3M owns the name "Scotch" for some products which are not related to liquor. :D

A few too many bottles of Scotch, a few too many rolls of Scotch-tape... abuse one or the other and you're stuck to the floor either way.

Slide film doesn't work this way. It's not like negative film where there's a somewhat linear connection between sensitivity and grain.

Slide film seems to gain grain with speed more quickly with increasing speed than neg film, so I agree that the relationship at least seems less linear.

That still doesn't mean a 200 won't be grainier than a 100 and less so than a 400 though. 200 would be a decent compromise.

I think they are starting with the 100 speed film because they intend to sell it in small movie formats, as well as in 35mm cassettes. I don't think they have specified what these movies formats will be but I presume they would include Super 8 and perhaps 16mm. The key backer of the project is a film maker. I don't think Super 8 and maybe some other small movie format cameras can handle films as fast as 400 ISO. Well, certainly my old Super 8 camera couldn't.

Movie cameras now mostly use 160-500 speed films because they often use filters that cut light, all kinds of filters... Especially with the HD now, diffusion filters are huge with shots of women, especially all the more "mature" women.

Ferrachrome just makes me though in something with iron salts, like a Cyanotype slide!
Liguriachrome is a good name also!

Luigichrome! (Ok I confess, my son likes Super Mario Bros. video games, and Mario's brother's name is Luigi.)

It's been quiet for a while. They must be quite concentrated in synthesizing all the colour chemistry. :D
