Some of you may remember awhile back when I asked for supportive information regarding teaching darkroom photography in college. I received some excellent info regarding this which I passed on to the school administrators.

Well, it paid off!!!! Over the summer, my community college put some hard-to-come-by dollars into restructuring our darkroom! We are going from 7 badly abused Beseler Cadet enlargers to (eventually) 18 Beseler 23c's !!!! Sink space for both film and paper has doubled! Enrollment for each class is currently at 15, soon to go to 18 or 20.........and the classes fill! (also a waiting list of those who want in).

3 new Beselers are in now, 4 more have been ordered. (Sadly, we will have to continue with the Cadets until they either completely fall apart and/or money is available to replace them, or we get a few donated) Eventually we will get to the max of 18.

You cannot imagine how thrilled I am! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Great!

We have a line of Beseler 23C's and a line of Omega D5's. What heads do you have for the 23C's?

That's great to hear. At the local community college where I live they shut down their darkroom.

It's quite a feat. I work at a university and money is tight. You're resourceful. Now young kids can discover the magic of using a darkroom. Good work!

Valerie,
Congratulations on your successful attempt at keeping film alive...
I do have 2 suggestions (take them for what they're worth):
1- Post for donations on your local Craigslist. It looks like you'll need more trays, tanks, etc., too.
2- Contact your local newspapers/media outlets. This is a great story, and extra publicity could lead to more donations.

Keep us posted on your progress.

Dear Valerie,

PM me your postal address and I will ensure all your initial students have the MULTIGRADE printing manual to help them on their way...

Congratulations.

Our new arts building is finally under construction, so that is good news. But the bad news is that when we move in a year and a half or so, color analog printing will be abandoned.

This is good news. I teach at Brooklyn College and the photo classes with darkroom are the most popular classes in the art department. Congratulations on getting it done

Thanks to all for the well wishes! We are indeed excited about this. My department chair has worked for several years to make this happen.
