New Black and White Photography Magazine

Digital output will never be in my BW future.

As the saying goes, you dont get a second chance to make a good first impression, and judging from the web site I find this might be a hastily put together endeavor.

They list 6 "film" photographers, but 2 of them are "comming soon". Of the 4 remaining, one has images with very high resolution, even with DSL it took a looong time to load, I gave up and clicked back....another one has them with way too low resolution, they loaded quick, but looked terrible IMO.

Of the digital photographers, the ones from the female photographer did not load correctly. I kept clicking different pictures and got the same one all the time in different sizes and orientations.

I still dont know if this is an "art" magazine, a photography magazine for collectors, or a photography monograph a là Lenswork. In their preview issue they have a long article about creative writing...what is up with that? And is NY really the Mecca of the art world?....I would think Paris and London are not too shabby either...

What I really find unpardonable is the lack of originality. The "Dont color my world" article is from US News & World Report, the Connie Imboden appears to come from Photovision. So 2 out of 3 articles are reprints....and the other one is about creative writing.....I dont get it.

I dont want to rain on their parade, but their advertising rates are almost as high as those of B&W magazine for collectors.....I will give you all 3 guesses which magazine I plan to give my money to advertise...

Bottom line, I found the web site did not incite me to check the magazine out, I found it amateurish and not pleasing at all. Hopefully the magazine is better put together, but as I said, first impression was not good.

The analog/digi portion of this thread is a complete yawn :/

The magazine sample, however, was deeply and movingly uncompelling. I hate having to say that, but it's true. It was profoundly devoid of thoughtful or exciting content.

That's because the responses tend to be either "Great! Looking forward to the first issue." or "If it is mostly about inkjet printing, that isn't my particular interest but best of luck anyway."

Not excactly a barn burner of an A vs. D bruhaha. Thankfully.

Actually, it was a yawn because as far as I could tell the mag is about neither analog or digital processes, in fact it's not really much about process in any way. But somehow people had to go looking for trouble, in a zealot-like manner reminiscent of a narrow comment I once heard about a prominent Japanese artist: that he was "interesting, for a non-Christian."

Some folks just can't seem to see beyond their own fence.

Somebody posts an invitation to view a sample of a magazine called "Inked". A casual glance at the sample issue shows Photoshop screen captures illustrating digital techniques. It doesn't take a trouble-seeking zealot to notice that the magazine will be devoted, in some portion to digital process. Is it another Digital/Analog magazine or a Digital/Hybrid magazine"? Beats me, but my interest lies more in the analog direction.

I don't know if the publisher is Christian. Come to think of it, it never occurred to me to care.

I perused through the website and the magazine might have potential. I think its better to take a wait and see attitude rather than burning down the barn. There are never enough good magazines about Photography. The good ones always seem to come and go. Of course we could chase this one away and we would still have 10,000 versions of Photoshop Photography Magazine! Now that's really interesting. How many of you actually subscribe to Photo-techniques or Lenswork? Someone here should set up a poll. I'd like to subscribe to the English B+W Mag. but can't afford it right now; and I need to subscribe to Lenswork although I've been buying it on and off the newstand.
It's my feeling that if the winers stopped crying long enough to put their money where their mouth is than we might see better product out there.
