Hi,

I created an app for iOS that you can use to fast check composition & crop for a photograph. Main usage is probably a big & heavy film camera that you don't want to setup for nothing.

Basically it is showing rear camera image and you can adjust manually the crop for specific camera / lens combo.

Link to the app: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/kamera/id1484690352?ls=1

The app is free.

.. and there is one small alignment issue with the Color / B&W button but I will correct that soon.

If you have issues using the app, I would like to hear!

Interesting, but, I'd worry all photos would start to look the same. Besides, it takes the enjoyment out of it. Solving composition problems is fun and you get to do it better as you learn. Still, let's see how it goes - don't think I'm against it.

I don't quite follow your thoughts, could you clarify a bit? Why would photos start to look the same? And what enjoyment will you loose by using a composition "loupe"?

Out of curisoity what iPhone model are you using and did you install the app - did it work at your phone?

Can't find the app in the app store. There are many with similar names....you could have found a more original name to call your app by, maybe.

Sound like a good idea though to replace my old-fashioned cardboard cut-out except in bright light, when the phone screens are not adequate to see the image properly.

I use Magic film viewer all the time on my phone, whats yours do thats different?
The only thing I wish it had that it doesnt is wider angles and film sizes above 4x5.

This app sounds like suggesting that artists who paint should try paint-by-numbers first.

The "rules" of composition are not difficult to learn and apply. If someone needs an app for they they should just buy postcards.

Yeah. But why is it not showing up on the iOS App Store. You can't buy it from a web link.

It shows on my app store when I look on my iPhone through the posted link. On my laptop, it simply states "This app is only available on the App Store for iOS devices." - obviously, because the laptop isn't using iOS.

Ah, now I know what you mean!

The redeem codes are available at your phones app store (the app) at the first tab, just scroll to the end and it should say "redeem" or something similar. There you can enter one of the codes. Btw: those codes are single use so if some code doesn't work, then choose another one.

Someone who doesn’t understand the creative process involved in composing a photograph as compared with an ap, just doesn’t understand photography. Not only paint by numbers, but also somewhat like the how-to-paint shows on PBS...use this brush and this color to paint a cloud.
This ap would appeal to those who value mediocre results to mental process. From this viewpoint this ap could be a success.

Is there an Android version coming? Also, just to be clear, the app is meant to act as a viewfinder to preview a scene, sort of old style cardboard frame with proper aspect ratio and lens' angle of view?

That is gatekeeping big time. I don't know why this app causes so much hate.

The app has been removed from App Store long time ago. @Sean can you close this thread?

Did not notice the thread was actually not a fresh one, never mind my question, unless it does what I was asking about, which I would have found helpful.

It's great to have these kinds of tools working as a photographer. I've tried all of them, so I'll definitely give this one a shot. Sometimes, you get stuck on stupid things that your camera can't solve, and it's so frustrating. So genuinely, thanks, man!
I've been shooting landscapes lately. Do you think this app could work for that? I need some app that can help me capture natural colors and tones.
