I have developed good time/temperatures for Adox Rodinal with FP4 and HP5. Throughout the 70s and later, Tri-x and Rodinal (Agfa, of course) was my main gig, but things changed and I stopped using Rodinal for everything. But I still have an Agfa Rodinal 500ml from about the late 90's.
My new combination with the two Ilford films mentioned are with Adox Rodinal, but I'm really curious to see what the grain structure on these films would be like with the Agfa Rodinal in this last bottle. It is a bit dark, but not much more than my 2Year old bottle of Adox.
I have long forgotten my original times in the 70's with Agfa (and Tri-x of the day). If you were to try a roll of today's HP5+ with Agfa Rodinal, and you knew a perfect time/temp with Adox, where would you start?

I would start with the time given at Massive Dev chart.

The box (of old rodinal)says:
68deg hp5+ 1+25 8min
1+50 not recommended
the info on the bottle agrees with the box

The lit in the box:
1+25 10 min
1+50 15 min
I've never used hp5+ that I recall...
But without testing, I'd guess at 9, good luck

Ilford's data sheet for HP5 tells you the times they recommend. I'd start with that before using the times on the bottle (I don't think those have been updated in decades) or the massive developing chart.

Ilford HP5 Data Sheet

They say 11 minutes at 68 degrees (20C), 1+50 dilution. My own testing agrees with that.

I'm about to jump into some Rodinal (most recent version) use.
Should I look to the film manufacturer data for my start points? The developer in its various forms has been around forever, but not every film has been and there have also been various changes to emulsions within certain films.
Unless the most recent film developing cookbook or some other tome has good data, I'm simply looking for an accurate jumping off point and will do a bit of my own testing.

Subquestion:

How does everyone find the Massive dev chart times? I keep hearing that they're "usually in the ballpark" for a new film/dev combo to the user.
Is that fine, or is it very unrealistic to expect good negatives on my first try with a new to me chemical?

I use generally Massive Dev Chart unless I find a recommendation for the manufacturer. Otherwise the times over there are pretty ok, at least for the films and dev combos I use
