Thanks to all who have whitelisted Photrio. The impressions and ad revenue have increased noticeably.
It seems to come in waves. I am working with ezoic next week to roll out their system, which uses advanced AI to serve more relevant ads. It's worth a try anyway.Hi Sean. I am seeing an increase in some rather irrelevant advertising this past week in the header. Usually, it's at least close to photography, but this past week it's been random garbage - even "healthy socks"??
Has there been a change in the algorithms?
There was a spell recently where huge ads started serving in the header, and I reset those back to smaller sized. One thing you can do on an animated ad is click the x in the corner of the ad:Not sure how paying for a forum subscription and then blocking ads balances out. I am content to both subscribe and leave ads enabled as long as the adds don't move. But I can't bear the animated ones. I had to un-whitelist the site recently due to an annoying animation. I'll check, and *IF* the animation is gone, then I will re-enable ads.

It then gives you an option to stop seeing it. It can learn that you do not like animated ads.
Another option is to tell google directly what ads you prefer. That can be done here:
https://adssettings.google.com <-- @ozphoto this may help you as well
And as mentioned above, I've going to see if using ezoic for ad serving improves things. From what I hear it does.
P.S. Thanks for the sub, and if you want ads disabled, you still have a badge showing you support us which is great.
If you mouse hover over the ad you might see the x appear. I'll let you know when we switch over to the new system as well.Well, I did whitelist the site on my ad blocker for a few days until another dreaded flickering animation reappeared. So I went back to ad-blocking.
I will turn on ads again to see if I can block just the annoying ones by clicking the "x" but so far I have not noticed any ads giving me the "x" option.
I don't use Google except on very rare occasions. Can I asume changing Google settings will have no affect on what I see if DuckDuckGo as my default search service?
Or does Google own the internet now?
Edit: Just saw an ad at the top of a forum page (banner? header? not sure what to call that part of the page) - anyway, it has an animation - an airplane flying across the ad - and I do not find any "x" to click it off.
Hi, sorry about this. I think google just re-worked their auto ads and I might need to back out of it. Let me investigate further and get back to you.Man, I tried to support this, but the ads seemed to be getting out of control. They were in the middle of forum posts. For instance, I would read the first part of a single reply, see an ad, then have to scroll pas the ad to see the remainder of the same reply.
I don't mind ads, but is there a way to keep them out of the middle of everything?
I do most of my surfing on an Android tablet, if that matters. Looking at my previous post, it still says "ads enabled," although they are blocked. I don't know if that still helps...Hi, sorry about this. I think google just re-worked their auto ads and I might need to back out of it. Let me investigate further and get back to you.
Ok, the new auto ads had "in page ads" enabled, which was injecting a lot of ads in the main content page areas. I was able to disable this and it should be back to normal. This would be ad in the site header, sidebar area and some in the footer. On a really long thread there may be one in the midle of the thread. Let me know if that's any better. I just checked - it's much, much, much better. Back on the whitelist!Ok, the new auto ads had "in page ads" enabled, which was injecting a lot of ads in the main content page areas. This sounds funny and there is a black humour in cracking jokes about it but really this isn't funny. On Sunday and Monday I kept on getting adverts for Tesco and as Tesco isn't in the U.S. it had to be the Google problem that Sean alludes to. The all seeing Google targeting what it knows to be a Britain based personThis is so far the norm in the world of forums and BBS programs, that I've become immune to it. Whatever settings you are using provide much more targeted and less intrusive ads. There is another (not to be named) photo oriented web site that seems to think I need to "meet senior ladies" or purchase Russian mail order brides! As attractive as those options are, I'd rather see a bargain Super Ikonta!

Hi Theo, do you see ebay ads at the bottom of this page? Just checking. Also, if you do see the ebay ads what browser are you using? If using Safari then try this:

Make sure "Enable content blockers" is un-checked
