New 9000 owner and few questions....

Just placed an order for 9000 and I wanted to know why is the rotating glass holder better and more expensive? Especially when losing batch scan option!

Images can be leveled in PP for vertical and horizontal, so I'm a little confused. My method is to increase canvas size, straighten and then crop.

Is image degradation an issue with .tif as well?

Lastly, can 135 film be placed in the MF glass holder for scanning? or is it strictly 135 carrier use. How do you guys keep 135 neg flat without glass.

The stock 35mm holders hold the film very securely with crossbars across so that each frame is held all around the edge. If your film is really curly you can get some glass that will fit the stock holders from Focal Point. It is very good and much cheaper than the Nikon holder. Plus, you still get to batch 12 frames at a time.

The rotating holder costs more because it has more features. It comes with a bunch of encoded masks and lets you put all sorts of film on and still finds the frames.

The problem with putting any old thing in the MF holder is it will screw up the automatic frame detection. You will probably have to scan a huge area and crop afterwards.

My negs are fairly flat as well. I just want to make sure I've the right tools if I run in to any issues.

I assume it is better to scan without glass.

Lastly, I cut my 135 in 5 negs per strip. Do I need to mask the the sixth cavity before scanning. Will that cause light leaks and banding?

Open cells have not caused me any trouble. If you ever did run into a problem I would just cut some thick black paper into the right shape and load it next to your film.
