I recently stumbled across this project:

It's an attempt to create a new series of 35mm cameras (starting with SLR, moving onto rangefinder) that have replaceable backs. It can either hold film, or an APS/C, or a full-frame digital sensor.
The digital back is actually powered by a Raspberry Pi Compute module, meaning it's running Linux and can be programmed to do anything a small computer can do.
It's an Open Source Hardware project, so people will be able to adapt and improve on the concept.
Based in Germany, they're just starting up at the moment, but looks like one to keep an eye on in the future.
