New 35mm camera by Harman technology

One of my retailers presented in their latest newsletter a new cheap 35mm camera by Harman.
And it is already shown on Harman's website as well:


Similar to their established "Harman Reusable Camera", but now with integrated motor winder.
Looks like in tiny steps more "advanced" 35mm PS cameras come back to market.
First the new single-use cameras, then the "reloadable/reusable" cameras, now one with a motor.
Good signs, I think.
I am very curious to see the next steps.........

However, since that thread focuses on the film in those cameras as such and the EZ-35 is only mentioned passingly, let's keep this thread to focus more on this side of the matter.

Putting in a motor to advance the film is a step in the right direction. I haven't closely followed all the wide angle, plastic 35mm cameras on the market now, but they appear to be cameras that use a thumb wheel to advance the film. That will really constrict their use, as it takes quite a while to get the camera to the next frame. Not good.

Most of us that shoot 35mm are using old cameras, sometimes very old cameras, and at some point they will break and there won't be parts for them. It's a miracle that a lot of them are still going and still return excellent results. Nothing lasts forever though, so hopefully this new camera will be more successful and lead to better cameras in the future. It's encouraging anyway. This is the first non Holga like camera that I might buy, and I'm not even a wide angle shooter.

But they need to give us one w/ a meter and an adjustable aperture. This camera is going to be quite limited in it's use.

Didn't Kodak do this 100 years ago? "You Press the Button, We Do the Rest"

Its not exactly a unique thing.... sure the motor winder... but the question to ask is...

why increase the cost of a device, that is essentially single use for the majority of people who would purchase it... that i think most labs merely TOSS out when developing the film...

There is a huge glut of low cost, point and shoot film cameras on the market. Diana/lomo. Kodak now.. etc.

The lab will only toss it if the customer sends them the whole camera instead of taking out the film as most people would.

I am in favour of any item that gets more people to shoot film and if this does the jog, then great.

At almost £54 per camera I doubt if any person is likely to send it to a lab that might toss it out. If there are enough new users of film cameras out there who are prepared to lose £54 each time they want a film developed then Ilford has found the answer to its prayers for a plan to secure future all the future revenue it may ever need

people are willing to spend money on instax... around here those instant film packs are roughly 1.80 plus tax for a single shot

Look at some of the mini printers being sold today.. just made for 4x5 or 5x7 photo printing from cell phones... those are 2.00-2.50 for a single print.

Which is comparable to the price of color film, exclusive of processing, for a 6x9 on 120 camera. I don't think Instax is overpriced at all for an instant print product.
