Is Neopan 400 a traditional type film like Tri-X or HP5, or is it a flat-grain new type of film like ACROS, Delta, etc?

Larry

It's a traditional type. There should be a data sheet on Fuji's website. Nice film, I've used it quite a lot. It's look is somewhere between HP5 and Tri-X. Not quite as gritty as Tri-X but more so than HP5 -- if that makes sense!

Thanks, Mike.

It has very smooth grain and is to my eye finer grained yet less crisp than HP5, whic exhibits greater accutance. I like it and am using it alongside TriX right now to see which I prefer.

Big difference between neopan and Tri X, Neopan has a really long and gradual shoulder, which makes it easy to fit long scale, or contrasty scenes without any drama. Tri X can have more brilliance, more snap in the highlights.

I do lots of available-light, environmental portraiture. Neopan is it's own fill flash.

Quite nice, and belongs in the bag right next to the Tri X.

Neopan 400 is wonderful. You can buy it in bulk from Dead Link Removed in Japan, it currently costs about US$29/100ft roll.
