Neopan 400 - recommendations pls

I started with Paterson suggestions: 1+9, 1+15; can't think of a better beginning.

OK, I tried Aculux 2, 1+9 for 12 mins, @ 20C. The results are less than stunning.... the tonality is washed out and grey, acutance is terrible. I agitated normally (inversions) for the 1st min and then used very gentle, non-inverting agitation for 10 secs every 1 min after that.

What did I do wrong?

The negs can be salvaged, but I don't like the look of them through the scanner. No idea what they're like to print yet as I haven't dragged out my enlarger for a while.

First post.

Neopan 400 is my standard film, and I've had pleasing (but different) results in Rodinal and Aculux. However, my very best results - fine grain, and pleasing tonality - have been with D76 (neat, not 1:1).

After switching over to Neopan 400 as my standard film since late last year. I have found that D76 1+1 is pretty much on the money for me. I thought the film when developed in D76 neat, a smidge on the soft side.

Once I switched to the 1+1 dilution, the negs snapped brilliantly and the skin tones are like FP4

I rate it at 320 ASA. The box speed of 400 ASA is probably correct.

Last Saturday I ran 6 rolls through the camera in my first major usage of this film, I'm very happy with the results.

The negs are sparkling on the light box, the contacts are terrific and the enlargements are wonderful.

35mm usage here.

I am surprised that they are low contrast as the time was quite long and, if anything, Aculux2 tends to be quite contrasty.

Was the Aculux2 fresh and clear or was it yellowing - I find as it gets older it gets weaker.

My agitation is 10 secs per minute - 2 complete inversions of the tank each minute. Maybe you could intensify your agitation.

I use Neopan 400 with Ilford ID11. Should be available again.
Delution 1+1 8 minutes.
Exposed iso 320 gives very, very good results
