negatives too dark!?

i have one problem. i was developing a lot of films and everything worked nice, but yesterday i developed one negative and it came out very dark almost black. what is the reason of that. all chemistry is new, and film also.

if the rebate between the frames are also black i would suspect the film has been exposed to light. If this is sheet film then the edges would exhibit the same problem, in other words, you can't see the edges.

If the rebate shows between frames, it is overexposed, which could be from a variety of factors. Faulty shutter, incorrect metering, etc.

If this is sheet film and the edges are clear then it still reverts back to a shutter or exposurer problem.

Agree with Ann..is there any image at all on the negative? Would help to know if it is roll film or sheet film. Since it is one negative (either roll or sheet film) would suspect that there is probably not a problem with the camera itself or the shutter. Are you positive about the exposure, which would be my first guess.

thanks a lot i think it was exposed to light because edges r also a bit darker. but image is also a little saeen. ill try to make photos and see what they look like.

If the rebate is ok, but the frames are really dark, and you're sure exposure was ok, chemistry was fine - there is one more thing that has cought me off guard (read: I was stupid): temperature. I souped some film in chems that were closer to 25 deg C than the 20 I thought they were at (and were supposed to). The results were pretty bullet proof.
Of course, do not dispair - they will be far from perfect, but you would be surprised what you can successfully print. Then there are always reducers - but I have never used one personally.
