Hi, forgive me if this question has been asked, I looked but couldn’t find a topic.

I’ve just gotten myself a couple of enlargers you start printing. My question is can I theoretically put a 6x7 negative in a 6x6 negative carrier, essentially just cropping part of the negative?

both the enlargers I have are only capable of 6x6 and all my negatives are 6x7. I do plan do use 35mm also but was hoping I could use some of my 6x7’s

Sorry if this is a silly question, I’m a complete beginner at this. Cheers

If you just want to print a 6x6 area of a 6x7 negative carrier, of course you can. What enlargers do you have? I had a Bogen 6x6 enlarger that could do 6x7 with a different negative carrier and a supplemental lens--I don't remember if it needed a different condenser set or not.

Does anyone know if it’s possible to put a 6x7 negative carrier (either buy one or somehow modify a 6x6 maybe?) into either of the enlargers I have? Agfa c-66 and LPL 66sll? I know they are both designed to only take 6x6 but just wondering if it’s possible? Thanks

Some negative carriers can be enlarged with a Dremel or machine shop tools - essentially one cuts away a bit of material to enlarge the hole.
The difficulty then becomes that the enlarger doesn't evenly light the edges of the larger opening, so in the print the corners end up (usually) being lighter and less sharp.
