Last night, as I was printing, I started thinking about the old proverb by St. Adams about the negative being sheet music or something like that. I was trying to get a negative to do something that it wasn't able to do, and the notion of listening to your negatives crossed my mind. You know, some negatives need more contrast, others less contrast. Some need lots o' dodging and burning, some print beautifully with almost no extra mods. This led me to think about the possibility of some sort of negative exchange to see what others can do with your negative. Could this be pulled off? I think in the apug sanctuary, negatives being a holy grail and all, treating others' negatives with the utmost of care would be paramount. Just a thought.

We've tried it, and it hasn't quite gotten off the ground. In fact I still have some prints from the negative exchange that must have taken place over a year ago by now, and they are just sitting in envelopes waiting to be sent out, because we didn't want to exchange the prints until after everyone had finished printing, and one of the negs was a pretty tough neg, so I only did one of them myself.

Maybe with the right group, it's possible to give it another go.

I think it would be cool to do it, and would volunteer a negative to be first to be sent out. Maybe a few others will like the idea if we put it out there and let people mull it over. I didn't think it was an original idea, but maybe it will work better this time.

I was the one who intiated the last neg excahnge and my negs never came back.

If anyone knows where they are please return them to me.

While I don't have them (your negatives), I wonder what the parallels are to spouse swappping -metaphoricly speaking.

Not wanting to be part of a wife swapping-type scenario, I think I'll let this idea go. Oh well.

Mark--I don't have your negs, but I have prints from one of them. I'm just going to send them out, since they've been sitting here for so long. The other participants in the exchange were Silverpixels and Jim Shanesy, so check with them on your negs.
