i dont know what the speed carrier is for... Can i just put plain old negative carriers in it or do I need a speed carrier? only 1 negative carrier works.

does anyone have or know of somehwere I can get carriers for this? i need 6x4.5 6x7 and 6x9

i second matt's suggestion, kbh is great people !
i've never heard of a speed carrier, omega was famous
for "rapid shift" carriers that allowed you to print multiple negatives from the same strip of film
without troubles because there were pins that kept the film centered .. kbh should be able to tell you what's what.

Ha! this answered my question. I saw your other post asking about the carriers and you didn't have the other picture of the speed carrier and insert fitted together ... I just got a D5 that has every frame size imaginable to go with the speed carrier insert and was trying to figure out if I was going to need to buy new ones or if those could be used with the D5 as they definitely aren't like the standard D2-D5 series carriers. I have to drive to pick it up this weekend but I was obsessing on the pics of the negative carriers wondering if they were going to work... they don't seem to be very common because I scoured the internet and only your post has pictures or mention of speed carrier. did you ever use them?

Which D do you have. Some like the D2 use the standard carrier, others like the D3 use carriers with slots in the back for the autofocus rails, they are not interchangeable.

Mine is a D5 standard not XL. I picked up the enlarger and accessories and I was correct that the carrier plates slide inside the speed carrier frame... basically the speed carrier frame fits the negative stage the same as the later D series negative carriers that have the rectangular frame bevel on the base side then it has a slot where you fit the actual negative carrier inside of it so you can swap out negatives without lifting the head off the negative stage. In theory it would probably work well but the ones I have (two speed carrier frames) both have significant light leaks. I ended up working a deal with an eBay seller and bought 35mm, 645, 6x6, 6x7, and 4x5 omega carriers for a bundle price and there are no light leaks with those inserted. Thanks for replying to this old thread guys!
