Not sure if this is the best forum for this - please move if it is not.

Is it possible to insure your negatives and slides? I have over 10,000 and while they are of no great commercial value, they are of great value to me and I would hate to lose them in a fire or flood etc.

Cheers

Would the insurance help if you lost them?

I'd rather buy a fire and water proof cabinet. According to the Wilhelm book, you should take sure that in case of fire, there's a way to insure that temperature won't get higher than 40ºC. And that the insulation materials don't generate moisture. These cabinets are made for ordinary paper documents and not film & photographic paper. Paper resists until 100 some ºC, the gelatin of silver won't.

i know that shippers ( fed ex, ups &C ) refuse to insure
slides and negatives. they are said to be one of a kind and irreplaceable.
if you catalog your film so you know how many rolls or sheets were exposed
i am sure you could get a "film replacement" through your homeowners insurance policy,
but i think you might be out of luck in getting replacements for the actual images ...
