Need your opinions for Nikon

I would keep the F5 but that's personal. I keep the F5 because I like the F5 and I bought the F5. I never consider buying the F100. I also like the F3.

A few mint condition F6s are now beginning to appear on the secondhand market here in the U.K. but the difference between a mint F5 and mint F6 is still in the order of £350/400 which is quite a lot, depending on what advantages the F6 delivers.

Thanks, I'm actually working on such an article right now. It is just that it is slow going, since I'm not used to writing these type of articles. But, I expect it will be finished in the next couple of weeks. I'll be sure to let you, and everyone else know when it is finished.

F5 won out for me

I had an F100 and an F5 and decided to sell one of the a couple of years ago. I decided to keep the F5. I really like the vertical grip but didn't have one for the F100 (plus add-on grip isn't as solid as the one-piece F5). Also, once or twice I removed the finder for a low-angle shot, rather than laying in the mud. I composed off the top of the focusing screen ('Blad-with-WLF style...) and it was pretty handy. Can't do that with an F100, F6 or FM3a.

The one thing I missed about the F100 was the LED AF indicators, but it wasn't that big of a deal. The weight didn't bother me, and it seemed like I could hand-hold the heavier F5 with a little more sharpness in low light at times when I couldn't use a tripod.

Remember that unlike magazine articles which can only be read, an article on APUG is almost a conversation in terms of what it leads to. So don't worry.

No matter how much time you take over getting it right or how well written it is, there will still be questions.

Even Abe's Gettysburg Address would have prompted a dialogue on APUG.

I too am looking forward to Robert's article.

Although the F6 has been around for well over a year, Robert is the first user I've known of - so it will be good to hear his thoughts, wherever they are posted.

I just hope that Nikon doesn't abandon the F6 before the slow but steadily rising user demand (other than the seal-in-plastic collector brigade) begins to assert itself in the marketplace.

And, damn! You guys are creating a hell of a lot of temptation for me right now!

I had both too, kept the f5. It is nice to go small with the f100 but I still prefer the F5. Its the best SLR I have ever used, period. Fits perfectly in my hand and is super fast.

The nice thing about the F6 is that it is both. The battery pack is removable; without it, the camera is the size of the F100, with it, the size of the F5. You win both ways.

BTW, I was shooting mine this afternoon at the state capitol building - we've had a lot of rain lately, and this afternoon the sun was shining.

Yes Robert, that is absolutely right.
Some further reasons why I prefer the F6 over the F5:
- improved AF
- improved 3D-Color-Matrix-Metering
- even with all old manual Nikon AI-S and the new Zeiss ZF lenses you can use the Color-Matrix-Metering , the old lenses are fully compatibel
- with the optional changeable screens A, J an L you get the best manual focus SLR you can imagine
- Advanced wireless lighting system
- improved mechanics, better mirror dampening, quieter operation (low noise level)
- better ergonomics
- integrated data back
- better viewfinder
- excellent data recording with the MV-1 data reader
- better MLU function

It's the best 35mm SLR ever made. Worth every penny. I love it.
