Need to process ektachrome 16mm and prof chems way to $$ need to be chemist to brew?

Need to process some 16mm ektachrome movie film.
Looking through your color chem sticky. Wow I don't need that much chems and the price wow $500 plus???
Looks like all the E6 kits in the USA are gone except maybe arista. $40 for a 1 liter kit??? That's nuts.
I've done many slides long ago with beseler kits. Gone !!!
I've even looked into home brew. Wow you got to be a freakin chemist.
Some chemicals are soooo hard to find. And again there goes the dollar signs $$$$$$$$
I'm thinkin that diy photo chem is going to become a thing of the past very soon.

where can I get Citrazinic Acid or Hydroquinone Monosulfate? You have to have a pretty well stocked chemistry closet to even think of brewing any color stuff.

This place advertises they use a Refrema E6 processor. Some of those processors will do 16mm without a problem. You might contact them: Dead Link Removed

You didn't mention the length. I presumed it is small strips from a 16mm still camera. ie something you wanted to process in a darkroom with some E6 chemistry.

If this is 25 or 100foot cine film then try http://www.prepfilm.com/price.html, I use them for my B&W cine processing.

I know there are a few places that I can get to process the film.
I am familiar with the E6 process. I would like to do it myself.
But with no reasonable kits anymore and chemicals I can't find.......
Are there substitutes for these? Citrazinic Acid or Hydroquinone Monosulfate?
I can find hydroquinone. Can this be easily converted to the monosulfate?
What is the purpose of the citrazinic? Can something else be subbed?

Don't forget since this is E-6 process, you'll need some CD-3 if you want color and not B&W. You could use CD-4 but for most accurate colors you're going to want CD-3 since E-6 is designed to give correct colors with CD-3 and not CD-4. It's the CD-6 that you can't get any more (I think that was used only in the K-14 process). Both CD-3 and CD-4 are available from Photographer's Formulary.

Yes I know that I need CD-3. Actually I just checked PF and they don't seem to have it any more.
I did find another source for it though.
It's the above 2 that I mentioned that I am having trouble with right now.
Do you know any subs that will work?

B&H says the Tetenal 1-liter kit is discontinued, so the only option now is the Arista kit.

The tetenal kits may still be available in europe. I don't know if that's just some remaining stock or what. But that's not going to help here in the US.
Actually cambridge camera still has them on their web site.
I ordered one just to see what would happen.
Checked with them today and they said they were waiting to hear from their importer.
I don't think there is much hope.

Guess I should have paid more attention to your name and picture. Obviously a cine person. I never did my own reversal 8mm because of lack of a good tank and reel. Out of curiosity do you have a tank/reel that takes 25 or 100 feet?

Citrazinic acid: I am continue to use my 1# supply purchased way back when, when Kodak Organics was still in business. I suspect it is available as reagent somewhere, but expect it to be expensive and require a commercial license to purchase.

HQ monosulfate isn't available anywhere that I could find it, but PE contributed to a thread recently on making it in solution. Crystalizing from solution is evidently not practical. I have used with some success alternative formulations for E-6 based on MPQ (metol-phenidone-hydroquinone) that can be made to work quite well, but will not duplicate the official processing.

You'll probably have to get it shipped from Europe, but it's still much cheaper ($120+shipping for 50 rolls capacity) than buying bulk professional chemistry and having most of it go off.
