I ordered 20 rolls of Kodak HIE the minute I heard it was discontinued. The local shop where I ordered it from just informed me that they couldn't get the order filled. I wish I had known back in November when I ordered it. Now I have none to speak of and I was hoping someone could either sell me my last 20 rolls or tell me where I can hopefully buy 20 rolls by mail order or courier.

Thanks for the suggestions. I just ordered it from Henry's in T.O. and if that doesn't fly then I will ask again.

For those of you who are interested, we at Photo Central do have about 20 rolls of HIE available. These will be the last rolls that we can get as far as I can tell. We are hoping to find a source of other infrared film soon (Rollei perhaps), but at this point we cannot be sure of anything in that regard.

Cheers,

Andrew

I'd love a replacement that was available in 120/sheet sizes-Kodak IR in PMK was great!

I was wondering where everyone heard that HIE was being discontinued ? I have always bought it and just bought some more but i keep hearing that its gone ! I checked Kodak's website and could not find anything that stated 135 HIE was being discontinued. The only info on HIE is that sheet film is gone but 135 will continue. If anyone has the link to where the 135 is being discontinued please let me know.

Hi Jim,

It was in a thread posted about in November. Maybe someone has the link. It was a very reliable source. Whatever is available is what is left from last year's production run. After that there is no more so I would get as much as you can although it will only last a year anyways. Some people have no trouble freezing it but other people have mentioned that it doesn't keep very well.
I just received another 10 rolls today from Aden's and last week I received 13 rolls from Henrys so I'm good to go!!! Thanks Art!!!!

Ahh Aden... I've never bought anything but film there, but they're fun little shops. There's a cute little elderly lady behind the counter in the South shop that tells me, "I can get it special order for you... because you're special!" I don't think she takes things very seriously... a good lesson for those of us who scurry around the city.

Cheers,

To be completely honest, I don't like HIE all that much, though I have a bit of it. The business side of me is telling me that perhaps I should buy some to re-sell at a later date. I know the topic of storing this film has been beaten to death. Does anyone think that it will end up price spiking by demand like EIR has (though probably not as extreme) before it goes bad? I have access to a -80c freezer if that helps.

Call LL Lozeau in Montreal, www.lozeau.com. Last time I was there they still had some left.

Nice...I was thinking of getting a few bricks so I can shoot some in my XPan, maybe I better do that before you decide to "Flip-it"....

Too late, Freestyle is out.

I found it in 135 yesterday (Samy's) but am told it was never available in 120 by several suppliers. Is that so? If not, I'll quit trying.

Thanks! I was going to check there and just ran out of time yesterday. I just put an order in for 30 rolls. I'm not sure how long the stuff keeps even in the freezer given my location at 8,000 feet so I did not want to order too much.

I plan on doing some wicked stuff with it in my XPan this Summer once the leaves pop up on the Aspen trees.

Hello Daniel,
I think your Kodachrome project is incredible. Good luck with that. I kind of want to do something similar with my last rolls of Kodak HIE as far as shooting the best that I can with it. HIE will last about a year depending on what your expiry dates on the box are. Some people have frozen it without incident and some people swear that it doesn't age well. There are some differing opinions on that topic. I just try to use it within the year and have had good results. It is very sensitive film. Photo Engineer (an apug person) has a great deal of knowledge on film and I would ask his advice about longevity.

Yes that is correct. It was available in 70 mm long rolls. At one time an individual on the internet, was trimming down 70 mm and rewinding it on 120 spools. Since Kodak no longer produces 70 mm HIE, he no longer sells the respooled film.

Hi BWKate

In the freezer you can hold him for at least 4-5 Years without problems I still use HIE in 4x5 with not any ill effects, but you should put it in freezer as fresh as possible and take him out just bevor use. It slows down the aging effect wonderfull!
Don't worry be happy and just belive me!
In XTOL it works! God luck, Armin J. Seeholzer

Hi,

Thanks for the Kudos on the K-Project. It certainly keeps me busy. But I have a half a dozen 35mm film bodies, so I think I can squeeze some IR in there somewhere. Earlier today, I started realizing what is going to happen here with the ebay frenzy buying it up, so I ordered 20 more rolls. I figure 50 should be a safe number for a year or two.

I am not sure where all I will shoot it yet, but I am certain I want to take some to Iceland and really work it in the pano.

This guy's site is pretty good. A little odd and out of optimum context in places but good:

http://www.yltech.com/photo/

I am very thankful I got some before it departs. Cheers, Dan

Well isn't this nice, I can find as much HIE as I need for the time being, but no Wratten 87C gel to cover the damn IR sensor in my XPan-I..
