Need someone to repair my Graflex RB Auto shutter

I need to have the shutter of my RB Auto Graflex repaired. Who can repair it? Is there anyone in the Northern Virginia or DC area?

Ya know over in the largeformatphotograpy forum there is a guy who has been selling a Graflex camera he fixed up. If you run into a dead end look the ad up and see if he wants to make some extra cash.

I drove there. Parking is hard to find. I paid a lot for parking. He said leave it and he would look at it Monday or Tuesday. His inspection would take an hour and it was free. It is hard for me to get there since I start to work at 7:00 and work to 6:30 in Virginia so it is hard to get the time to get there. He is not open late and it is too hard to find a place without spending a lot of money for parking in a lot. I will either send it to an APUGger that I brought aother camera from or fly it to Los Angeles and take it to Sammys which has a free parking lot.

It's supposedly virtually identical to the shutter in a Speed Graphic, and there are repair manuals available for those (come to think of it, I have the military technical document for the C-3). I might take a whack at mine over the weekend.

Yes, it is an earlier version of the same shutter. If I could find a tech manual, I would try it myself.

if you put the camera on its side so the controls are UP
you will see 2 metal plates, one is the tensioner spring
and the other is the shutter winder.
on the tensioner plate you will see a hex nut
remove the nut and you will expose a slotted shaft
that is the shutter tensioner,
wind it a revolution or 2.
release the tension on the tensioner so it is back to the 1
release the tension on the shutter so it is at 0

if your shutter travels fast between T and O the shutter is too tight
let it back off a little and test it again,
the trick is you want it to barely make it from T to 0 with the tensioner at 1

it really isn't as hard as it sounds. if you have worked on speed graphics before
you will have no trouble with this, its pretty easy and straight forward.

i wish i had a service manual for the slr ...

if you want to send your slr to someone for service, go to graflex.org and look for bert saunders.
he is a wizard with these cameras, and is fair and affordable with his prices.

I believe that Bert Saunders is no longer repairing Graflex SLRs if I remember correctly, but you could try Fred Lustig out of Reno. You can find his contact info over at Graflex.org.

I can scan some pages out of the book I have (which is for the PH-47 - Army's Speed Graphic) but I think the same information is contained here. (It's for the C-3, which is the Air Force's Anniversary Speed Graphic). Shutter info should be fairly close. It's worth grabbing the whole thing but the shutter repair is in the second PDF.
