Hi all,

I dunno how it happened.

My garage find, beloved mint condition Yashica Mat 124G....somehow came undone from the end-ring on my shoulder strap while wearing it, and fell from about chest height, to hit the pavement.

The hit scrapped the mounting ring on the top focusing lens...and the platform there that holds the lenses towards the top.

It appears the top of that moving platform that holds the lenses, is pushed it somewhat compared to the bottom of that platform/plate.

At first, the focus knob didn't want to turn...I twisted a little harder than usual and heard a slight pop...and the focus moves more freely now. I can see on the focusing screen that I am moving focus....
BUT...it doesn't see to want to to all the way to infinity....

I think this blow might have broken the working light meter. I never depended upon it, but it was neat to have....but now it appears part of that meter dropped down a bit into whatever used to hold the backing of it up.

Anyway...does anyone know of someone in the US I could contact that does reliable repair and CLA work on the Yashica Mat 124G?

Links, emails, phone numbers, etc....GREATLY appreciated!!

Thank you in advance,

cayenne

Sorry to hear about your bad experience. What a shame. It might be more efficient to just replace it with another.

I hope not....I got it mint for $75....I doubt I'll find another garage sale find like that...haha.

I'm really hoping someone that does CLA can check this out and fix if needed somehow. I can't imagine I'm the first person to drop a camera and have it land this way...hoping there's a way they can level out that front part that moves and holds the lenses....

You might not get a great deal like that again. What a great find!

So what you can do, is average the costs, if you end up getting antoher (or pay for repairs). Sometimes that takes away hte sting a bit. Good luck on whatever you choose to do.

I don't know anything about this person, but here is a name that often comes up regarding Yashica:

I fear that you will find that the repair may be far more than buying another clean one, noting that finding one for $75 is ... unlikely.

You could try CameraWiz in Virginia or Dave Easterwood in Michigan to see if they would take this work on.

I actually have been pricing this camera because I want to sell mine - which is nearly perferct with original Yashica hard case and strap and they go for ... far more these .. days.

Repair is usually limited to making stuck parts unstuck. What you will need is a lot of parts replaced, because there will be no easy way to straighten out what is bent. The accuracy of the machine depends on all those parts being exactly the way they were when new and bending them back into shape probably won't cut it.. Your repair will end up costing more than the purchase of a confirmed working camera, is my bet.

I absolutely agree. The camera was a gift at $75. It's no longer mint and parts may be unobtainable. Even if they are, the repair will far outweigh the value of the camera.

This Mark Hama video is more helpful if played back at 0.25 speed. Notice at about 0.45 seconds. The camera his is repairing has some damage to the focus mechanism. Maybe similar to the damage to your camera. He uses a hammer and anvil to straighten the parts.

Of course this will cost you $$$.
