I need a new lens and checked out from canon catalog. I couldn't find clear info about this lens. So i need some review to study on. Do you know any web site about this lens? if you have any info or exp. about this lens could you share it with me? I am keen on learning about especially price / performance balance and sharpness performance.
If you are after a mid range canon zoom, I can recommend the 24-70 f/2.8 zoom. It is, however, a smidge more pricey than the EF-S version, but thats to be expected really. It needs a lot more glass for the larger image area, and it wieghs about 2 lbs.
It really needs more glass for the larger aperture as well. Plus, it's possible that it actually uses glass instead of resin (plastic) for inner elements.
24-105 f/4 L for 35mm format. A real beauty, albeit heavy. I am repeatedly impressed by its sharp and flat character. The additional weight is somewhat offset by having a much lighter wallet.
The film equivalent of the 17-85 EF-S IS USM is the 28-135 EF IS USM. Same effective range, similar quality optics. The 24-105L is a better option if you can afford it, better optics and wider, but not quite as much reach.
The 24-105L is a great lens for its reach, but I wouldn't go that route if majority of your photography is done in low light. I would go for the 24-70L for its sharpness and in a lot of situations, a slower shutter speed with IS to give your photograph more exposure just doesn't cut it if your subject is moving.
