My friend gave me a bunch of darkroom equipment including this box full of something that's unknown to me. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

The part in center makes me think of a device to first roll a strip of paper with text onto one spindle and transer it by cranking to the other spindle. The device is mounted on a rod extracting from a cine-camera. By filmimg the transfer process opening- or closing-credits can be made.
But typically those are biggrer, to gain distance from the camera, but all depends on the macro capability of the camera.

That drums seems to have that thing to its right as stand.
Drums also can be used to make titles, but then they would be put with their horizontal axle into fork.
But maybe the drum was meant for text running horizontally, then that stand would make sense.

How interesting, thank you AgX. That would explain why I never came across this in a darkroom. I suppose it's obsolete now, it seems a waste to recycle such nice machinery.

I always say "Someday I'll need it."

In the meantime stuff keeps piling up....
