Need Help Identifying this Omega Condenser Lens

I believe the attached picture is of an Omega condenser lens. Can someone confirm this fro me and tell me which head it fits and any other information that may be pertinent?

It looks a lot like the supplementary lens for the D5 variable condenser head. Used with lenses shorter than 135-150mm IIFC. It fits in the head behind the flip-up door.

The unit is slid in along one of the (different height) sets of guide bars (like drawer slides) with the lens hanging down. Position above the main, unmovable lenses, depends on the focal length of the enlarging lenses.

Yup, also other variants with the variable cond. head. This is inserted at one of three postions to accomodate different focal lengths. It is shown flipped in the pic from the orientation in which it is inserted in the enlarger. Omega p/n 472105 msrp = 132.08$.

Yep. OK now the next question is where does this one go? It is larger than the one posted earlier and is too large for the variable condenser head.


Could it be for a cold head?

As noted by others, the first lens looks just like the variable condenser in my D2V, used convex down above the two main condenser lenses, which are positioned with the convex sides facing each other, and separated by a corrugated aluminum sleeve. The second lens(es?) are much shallower than the ones in my D2V, however.

the variable condenser for the E 5 is 4.5 inches across...it looks like the photo.

Those look like lenses for the main condenser unit of the D3 VC. They go in an aluminium housing. I'll upload a pic. The corrugated strip holds the two lenses apart inside unit.

The lens in the first post is the variable part. It slides into shelves at different heights above the main condenser unit.

Yep. And the condenser unit hangs under the head. But somehow there needs to be a shelving box for the VC lens, between them both.

Hmmm. Don't know about the blue one. I'd try the condenser and VC lenses on the other head. They look exactly the same as mine, except for the cold head lighting (mine's a hot head ).

Do you know what chassis you have? ...or failing that, are the aluminum rails that make up the column clear anodized or black, and can you post a pic of the focus mechanism? I'll get it out in the mail to you tomorrow.

I see some confusion here, mrcallow.

You have a cold light mounted in the bottom of the original lamp house; it wouldn't normally go with a condenser lens set, but should instead have a diffuser (or at least that's how my cold light works; there's a milky plastic sheet under the head, which sits down inside the condenser housing). The condenser lenses would be used with a conventional tungsten lamp mounted in the lamp house in original configuration (that one appears to have been altered some to support the cold light).

If you decide you don't want/need the condensers any more, do let me know...
