Hello,
I bought a 10 3/4 inch Dagor lens. It's got to be pretty old. Maybe 1940's or so. It came in a Vulmite air release shutter that seems to work. I've been told the lens is tack shape. It's uncoated.
My question is this. The lens is about a 270mm lens for 4x5 and slightly wide angle for 8x10. Which system should I use it for? I could use it for my medium format film but I do alot of color photography.
All I need to do is build a flange for it and then mount it to my 8x10 or 4x5.
Help. I don't know what to do with the lens?
:confused::confused::confused:

Why not use it on both?

If you'd have to mount it differently, and changing the mounting will be difficult, for which format is the lens more useful to you?

You might want to check to see that the coverage of the lens is sufficient for 8x10 to permit movements. If not, it may be better used on 4x5 or 5x7.

That lens should cover 8x10", and be quite useable on all formats up to that size.

So just use it - it's a lens, don't worry! :smile:

Robert,
While the 10+ in. lens is common for 4x5 as a medium-long focus, the Dagor SHINES as a wide angle lens. If you must commit, you won't find a better WA for your 8x10. If you can easily switch lensboards, so much the better.
I use Dagors on 7x17 and coverage is extremely generous. The Vulmite shutter might date this prior to 1940, and certainly uncoated, but still a wonderful lens.

I was thinking of getting adopter lensboard to use the lens for both systems.
The 270mm is only 60mm longer then my 210 lens but I know that I could always use that little extra and I do like wide angle for my 8x10. I currently have a 375mm lens.
Anyone know what copal shutter this lens would use?
I have been told maybe a #3.

I'm sure it's on SK Grimes website. They list lenses into shutters with 1st through 3 choices. They can also provide a Copal 3 if you need one.
