I have been buying Sttrathmore 500, Single Ply, Plate Finish for albumen printing from Jerry's Artarama but they no longer list it on the web or in their catalog. Does anyone have a source for this paper?
Thanks
Jim
500 Single-Ply Plate is particularly harder to find than heavier weights. I think there was even some concern about it being discontinued at some point, since it isn't in high demand. Of course the heavier weights are made from single-ply, but probably not plate finished single-ply.
Thanks for confirming. Those of us who use this stuff usually know who all the big paper suppliers are, but it's really useful to know who actually has single-ply plate in stock.
I've used mostly all of the major players in the fine art paper business. NYC probably has the largest selection of papers in the country. I know they have two warehouses. They may not always have the best prices but their customer service is second to none. Always request your paper shipped flat. I've been using 500 quite a lot since I've been shooting wet plate and printing with albumen and glass plate negatives. I've also been experimenting with a few other papers for albumen with some interesting results. I'll give NYC a call and inquire about the rumor that 500 single-ply may be discontinued. I know when I talked with them early last week they made no mention of it being discontinued.

Why don't you contact Strathmore directly, the company is in Massachusetts. I drive by it now and then when I travel around the western part of the state.
I just exchanged emails with Kathy Menting, customer rep. for Strathmore Artists Papers. She says Strathmore doesn't make a Bristol Series 500 1-ply paper. But artist are using 500 series Drawing "plate" and calling it Bristol. The specs for the 500 Drawing 1-ply are the exact specs that NYC has listed for Bristol series 500 1-ply. She is sending me a sample to compare. Also John Coffer has the paper listed in his manual as Strathmore Drawing 500 1-ply. Its my guess NYC just has it labeled as Bristol as a lot of other vendors do also.
Thanks for investigating that. Technically a Bristol paper is glued together from single-ply sheets, so a 1-ply paper isn't Bristol paper, so that clarifies things.
You're welcome David. I also inquired about ordering 23x29 sheets direct. They have a minimum of 1000.00 order. In case a group would be interest in a group buy.
