I need a couple of ground glass viewing screens (8x10 & 4x5) and was wondering if anyone had found a source in the UK?
I have been quoted a great price (£7) for an 8x10 piece of acid-etched glass from a local glass merchant - has anyone used this type, or is ground glass better?

Thanks for mentioning. It is indeed my little shop.
What is the thickness of the glass at your local glassmaker? I bet it is 4mm as these people typically don't want to work with thinner glass, at least here in Belgium.
Acid etched roundglass is very coarse and also a lot dimmer than grinded groundglass. My glass is 2mm thick mechanically grinded at 1200 grit.
There can be a perceived brightness difference between the two. There will be great different between different ground glasses also. The perceived difference on the ground glass has to do with the grit used or the method used to make it. Hand or machine ground glass after you get above 320 grit the naked eye can't tell the difference until you put optics on the glass.
My two screens arrived today - how's that for speed?! A four working-day turnaround to the UK, what a great service. The screens are of exemplary finish, very bright, cut to my custom
measurements, fit perfectly and were packaged extremely well. The postage was very, very good too for the combined order.
Thanks so much Geert - I am one very satisfied customer!
