NE Ohio September Gathering

John Powers - the originator and gracious host of the NE Ohio gatherings - has sent out emails suggesting a September gathering. I am posting the information he supplied in order to spread the news farther afield - (completely bypassing the courtesy of asking John about it first.)

Sept 5-6 or 26-27 have been suggested as dates and Nelson Ledges has been suggested as a venue.

I'll throw my hat in the ring for either or both dates. Color will be better in late September - but some are just blind to this attraction.

Nelson Ledges is about half way between Cleveland and the Pennsylvania line, in the Pittsburgh direction. That makes it a shorter ride for the Pennsylvania contingent, but adds about 20 miles for those coming straight from Detroit. It's about a 40 mile (?) ride from John's house.

There are other photogenic areas in the vicinity:

• South Chagrin Reservation
• Middlefield - minus the Amish, who as a rule normally don't like being photographed, though there are many exceptions and asking will often get permission
• Punderson State Park
• Holden Arboretum - a bit of a drive, about 30 miles, most through very lovely Amish country - take the little grey roads on the map.

For people wishing to stay in the Nelson Ledges area -

• A very nice campground and lodge can be found at Dead Link Removed
• An amusement park with camping is less than a mile down the road from Nelson Ledges
• Numerous bed and breakfasts can be found in Burton and Middlefield.

Along with the usual motel chains, though they will be a bit farther afield in this part of the country.

John has also offered to host campers - I'll leave the exposition of the offer to him.

For those of you who will be bringing Speed Graphics for action shots, there is a race track nearby.

These gatherings have been going of for a bit over a year now, are open to all who show up - and lots do, and are a whole lot of fun.

thank you for posting this. I'll keep it on my to-do list and hopefully will be able to get away.

Dolly and I are waiting for feedback from those who have attended these events before to determine if there will be a September gathering or if we should wait until October as discussed at the last event. Thank you all who have come before and those who may be attending in the future. I will post about a September event as soon as possible.

Well, ya'all got me so inspired that I made my first contact prints! Normally I make 11x14 or 16x20 but the ones I saw at the last event were soooo kool, that I thought I'd try it. Maybe prematurely posting this will get the ball rolling. I could always donate a bottle of enthusiam if you like!

Not to worry Nicholas. We just had a miscommunication. When more feedback is received from the group we can reach a consensus and make a plan.

Dorothy, You will just have to do better than that. You bring gallons of enthusiasm to each event. It is the staple of our events. How can you possibly add to that?

Speaking of motivation, I want to publicly thank Jeff, Eva and Bethe for talking, bringing and helping us enjoy home made ice cream. Dolly was so inspired we had pineapple sherbet a few days ago and dark chocolate tonight. Yesterday Dolly was on the phone with her daughter in Denver discussing ice cream makers and potential fruit ice cream combinations. I think the fatter clothes are coming out for the fall season.

You gotta get one of these to go with it... It's a chocolate machine and it spits out chocolate like a fountain!

And the first thing I did when I got home was clean all the parts and freeze the bowl again so I could make banana blueberry sorbet - quite tasty. My parents are coming to visit next week and I asked my mom to bring mint so we can make the mint ice cream like Dolly made. That was great.

Well, if it happens, I'm back in Pittsburgh now, and would love to attend.

I'll keep an eye on the thread John and if you do it in October, I'll try to make it down for some ice cream. Iceland's during the first dates and a gig in the north on the second. I'll make another of these somehow!

Even you are welcome Bill, especially since you taught me how to enjoy these events. Bethe had said you wanted to visit in October. I just couldn't wait, so I thought we would have both Sept. and Oct.

Since I can barely get my babyjogger up into Nelson Ledges I didn't see you horsing your trailer up there. Have a great Sept. in places I wish I could be and we will hope to see you here later in October.

Hello Ohio! I'm just moving to Ann Arbor this month and would like to join this sort of thing if the logistics work out. Later September is better, but I'll try to make any dates just to meet up with like-minded APUGgers! Please keep me posted. Thanks!

Jo, you are more than welcome to join us for dinner and show & tell Saturday night. I would not suggest Nelson Ledges though. It is pretty rough terrain.

Michael McClellan, welcome to the region. I hope you will join us. You must have some wonderful tales to tell from Addis Ababa.

We have a date for the event so I think I will start a new thread with almost the same title. It will have the invitation, details and what has become boiler plate from previous events. Thank you all for your interest and enthusiasm. For me that is what it is all about.
