NE Ohio gathering September 4-6, 2009

Joe,
The first time through, I read
Pig Candy is a great treat that will impress your friends and make your neighbors jealous.

Pig Candy is a great threat that will impress your friends and make your neighbors jealous.

Here are a few shots of the Century with its new 300mm Fuji.

I think you are going to have to give that lens back. It is way too massive for that delicate varnished beauty. Isn't there an abuse of old cameras law?

I am glad you like it.

John

I keep this around in case the camera police come by:

Lee, if you are reading, how is this for a crazy idea: I know you use a 4x5 Horseman Monorail in the field. I have a line on a very reasonably priced Horseman 8x10 LX/C Monorail studio camera (with the digital DOF calculator). I presume its like your camera with the addition of the 8x10 back and front-standard extender post.
It weighs in at 20lb, so I'd be with the 'baby-jogger' crowd lugging it into the field

Dale,

Not sure of exactly how similar the front standard is. The 4x5 front standard doesn't have enough rise to center the lens properly or have enough movement on the 8x10 with everything squared away. I'm not sure if the necessary riser for the front standard is swappable, but the cameras are pretty modular, so that wouldn't surprise me. I haven't ever used the Horseman 8x10 or the LX, only the LE. I use the monorail for shorter walks, longer lenses, and graflok backs, and a wooden field for longer, rougher walks and normal to short lenses. I've done literally tens of thousands of studio shots with the LE, so using it is second nature.

John, did you get Dolly's check engine light fixed? Mine says I need a new computer. It only misbehaves when it's hot out, and then it's incorrigeable (sp?). Hopefully it will be fixed sooner than later. I'm getting a little tired of being tied down for lack of a reliable vehicle.

this is very kool Lee! What else can a google web page do? can you add pictures like a gallery?

Google pages can do lots of things. Yes, you can add photos and graphics. I don't know of any serious restrictions about what you can do, although they do want you to mark adult content and don't want illegal stuff posted. The agreement gives them the right to use your posted materials to promote google services without reimbursement, although the copyright remains with the original owner/poster. There is a limit on the size of free pages. You can sign up for free yourself and try it out.

Yes, the code on her Toyota Camry said she needed a new Jaguar so I have put it on her Christmas list.

John,

Our youngest son will be home on leave from the 101st over Labor Day weekend. See you in October.

Bob Steckmeyer, Ann & Gideon

Though this seemed to be the weekend of choice, one person after another has had to bow out, some for happy reasons like the Steckmeyers, some for more difficult reasons. Let’s try a poll of any who are planning to come. The camping area will be available for anyone who wants to stay Friday night through Sunday morning. If we have takers for the event I was thinking of driving over to Nelson Ledges, leaving here about 8:00 AM and arriving there about 9:00 AM Saturday. If anyone wants to meet there at that time or later let me know. If no takers I will probably work on my school project of shooting local 20th century churches. You are welcome for either.

If this falls through we can reschedule for when ever the OH Dept. of Natural Resources thinks we will have fall color in October. It was the third weekend last year. What are your thoughts?

John

John,
I just spoke to my boss for confirmation. I am off Saturday and I can definitely be there (Nelson's Ledges) Saturday. You and I have been talking about this place for over a year now and I'm dying to see it. So, if nothing else you can count on me. 9 o'clock sounds good. I just talked to Scott Killian and he's checking his family schedule and may accompany me. I can't do more than one day though. All the best. Shawn

I'm still waiting to get my jeep fixed. I think I'll have to say no to this weekend as well. bummer!

Can't make it this weekend unfortunately, but will definitely make it in October if I can. The 3rd weekend (the 17th) would be ideal for us.
The 17th works for me as well.

Thanks Peter and Shawn for coming this Saturday. Sorry the rest of you won't be there.

Thanks all for the enthusiasm. Before the tentative Oct. 17 date snowballs from the four who have responded, please remember that so far this is subject to the OH-DNR statement about fall color. That is unless coinciding with predicted fall color is no longer important to the group. You know with me 85% color blind, my only priority is not to disappoint my guests. Let’s get further into September before we firm up a date for October. The welcome mat is out, but we are just not sure for what weekend yet.

John
