NE Ohio Gathering, May 17-18-19, 2013

General Notes:

The Porta Potty is $117.00 this year. Please contribute your share in the Mason Jar on the glass table. Eva will audit the results.

April showers bring May allergies, poison ivy, ticks and if it warms up mosquitos. You are camping, walking and meeting in the woods. Ground cover for your tent is suggested. Deep Woods Off is supposed to work well on mosquitos. OH DNR suggests a spray with .5% permethrin for ticks. Dead Link Removed. If you think you have touched poison ivy please wash well with strong soap in less than 15 minutes. That may or may not save you some discomfort.

For those of you planning to cook, please remember this is our home. Fire insurance will never replace it.

We have deer, coyote, raccoons, skunks, owls who can eat your food or do damage. Watch your step near the house we have three 70 something pound dogs who work very hard to make that grass green.

Please be careful out there.

Have fun.

John & Dolly

Thank you all who have responded so far. It really helps get a picture of what is happening. Please others tell us you plan.

Tentative Schedule:
Friday 5 PM: Welcome. Anyone camping please continue on down the driveway past the first house (ours). Just before the second small house there is a car wide path off to the right in the grass. Please drive up that to where it opens into a mowed field. Set up your gear any place you like. Remember there is lots of poison ivy in the woods. In the NE corner of that open field there is a path up to our house. Come on up anytime after 5 PM.

Friday since people will arrive at different times please order what ever drink, pizza or sandwich you would like from: Teressa’s Pizza 4174 Wheatly Rd. Richfield, OH - 330-659-9555. To find them go east on Everett to the light. Go north on Brecksville Rd. to the second light at Wheatly Rd. Terresa’s is in the little shopping center on the right. For those on the turnpike Terresa’s takes about 20-30 minutes on Fridays. Call ahead. Your exit is 173.

Friday night we will talk, show prints and eat, some of my favorite things.

Saturday 9 AM: I will lead any who want to go to the Flats. I have a small number of Xeroxed maps of the Flats. It is a 30-45 minutes north. Be aware that I 77 is a radar trap on weekend mornings from about the turnpike north.

Anyone wishing to go to other places, please post and gather together if you want that. I have giveaway maps of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park for you.

Saturday 5 PM meet back at the house. We will go for an early dinner at Musketeers Bar & Grille, 3027 Brecksville Rd, Richfield, OH. Tel: 330-659-4111. Afterward come back here , talk, show prints, tell lies and plan for tomorrow.

Sunday 10 AM Brunch Richfield Family Restaurant 4793 Brecksville Rd, Richfield, OH 44286 tel:330-659-9862 just south of the OH Trpk. entrance. Shoot before and after.

Thanks for coming.

He who tries to herd cats.

Looks Good John!

I'll for sure join in for the flats!

Also would it be OK if I camped on the Sunday night also?

I'll have a nice Colman stove with me, that you're more than welcome to use if you so desire, and it has a griddle on it!

Thanks Alex,

I might be just driving over for awhile on Saturday at this point. Have to see how things work out.

Aaron

Here the architect of the condo on the right has borrowed decoration from the bridge structure. The Flats is an interesting place.

The road crossing the river is Columbus. To the right of the condo is a popular tavern called Hoopples. 1930 Columbus Rd Cleveland, OH 44113. The condo side of the bridge is a great place to photograph ships coming up or down river. They almost have to stop in the turn. I took some 1/2 second and two second exposures there of ships almost stopped as they changed direction to meet the turn in the river. Good photo spot if ships are moving. See app mentioned earlier to find out when they are moving.

Lee L, you coming?! Going out early with us Sunday?

This weekend is entirely up in the air. It will in part be determined by the choices of others, which they haven't communicated to me. As of now, it looks unlikely.

Sorry for the non-responsive nature of this reply, but that's what I'm dealing with here.

I'd like to see everyone, and will try to make the next one. Hope you and everyone else has a great time and good weather.

Lee

We will be heading to Ohio with Eva and Jeff early morning on Saturday and planning to arrive around 9 am.
I am exited to see everybody again.

Sorry Lee. Some times it goes that way. Hopefully things will improve.

Silke,

Glad you are coming. What do you and your crew want to do? I understand you have Charlie's wetplate gear.
Will you want to go to the OH Farm Museum, the Flats, the park or shoot around our house?
I will be leading a group to the Flats about 9. Should we wait for you or do you have other plans?

John

I understand "entirely up in the air" all too well... Hope you end up having a nice weekend wherever you are and I'm looking forward to seeing you sometime, Lee!

Camping Gear packed into the car, camera gear packed, film holders loaded, film packed, clothes packed. Now...how well will I sleep tonight. Looking forward to this.

John

we will be arriving with Eva and Jeff around 11 am Saturday, so don't wait up. We will be heading to the Farm museum.

Be patient grasshopper. The world will be there for you.

Love the enthusiasm. Have a great safe drive.

Jeff wrote saying you would be there at 9:00, but that is Jeff.

If you need directions,
Turn left (west) out of our driveway onto Everett Rd.
Go right at the first turn, Southern Rd.
Jim Fry, 2891 Southern Rd. Richfield, OH 44286 330-659-3507 http://www.ohiofarmmuseum.com/
The whole trip is 1.4 miles

Just a quick count looks like 24 are coming for sure and several maybes.
I am so glad you are all coming, but a little overwhelmed. Remember the host is 73 years old and may just disappear for a nap. I will be grateful for any help, especially from those who have been here many times. Thanks for coming.

I just finished flattening a bunch of prints prints to show... hmm...now where is my box? I wonder if I left it last meeting. 16x20" heavy cardboard Ilford Paper box. Not something one wants to leave at a film photographer's house. That will blend right in, perhaps never to be seen again...

I have another commitment Saturday, so I hope people will bring prints to show Friday. See you all tomorrow.

Hi all...

I just thought I'd drop a quick note and say Hi. I am new to APUG, but old to film. My first camera was a 110 back in the late 70's and my 1st serious camera was a Ricoh XR-7 35mm SLR in 1981. Although I do have a DSLR, I find myself wanting to shoot with film more than the instant gratification of digital. Anyway, I am bringing my friend Jeri, who is relatively new to photography and very new to film. We both will be shooting 35mm, although I may throw in an old Kodak folder or two or maybe even my Eastar 120 TLR... We shall see you all Saturday morning and then again Sunday. Hoping to see Mat & Alex again, (and anyone else who attended!) who I recently met @ the FPP Walking Workshop in Findlay.

Sorry Lee. Some times it goes that way. Hopefully things will improve.

Thanks John,

Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose, but everyone is relatively well here, just extremely busy.

With 24-30 people coming we are very short on chairs. If you have an extra or two and still some room in the car, that would help.

Thanks,

John

Welcome Kevin. Jeri is welcome, but I would be grateful if you would pm his whole name, address, email, phone# and an emergency contact. We just like to know who is here, has access to our home, etc.

Thanks,

John
