I think it must be time for another APUG gathering in Bath, Ohio. We are five miles south of the Ohio Turnpike and Route 77.

Bob Steckmeyer and Norm Schumm were over the middle of last week to show and tell about our own prints and go see the Edward Weston-Friedlander exhibits at the Akron Art Museum. Bob and Norm were also interested in coming over in May. Shawn Dougherty wrote today asking if we could get together to shoot at the Ritchie or Kendall Ledges. Dorothy Kloss asked a long time ago if we were going to get together in May. Dale Marsh wanted to know if I was available to shoot this week. I think it must be time, but I want to be sure we don’t interfere with Bill Schwab’s bigger gathering at the end of June.

We are available Saturday and Sunday May 30 and 31. If some visitors want to camp by the garden as several did last September, you are most welcome. Come as early as Friday night. Dolly and I will have coffee made each morning and we can gather and talk by the pond. The Lady Labradors will entertain with their splashing stick routines. When we learn how many are coming we can order a porta potty if there are enough to pay for it ($110 last Sept.). If you want we can concentrate on photographing the ledges. I will steal some more Cuyahoga Valley National Park maps.

Show and tell of our prints and dinner out Saturday night. Be aware that Dolly teaches First Grade and school finishes June 9th, so we may not see much of her. All APUGgers are welcome. Who is interested in coming? What information is needed?

John Powers

Alright, looking forward to it, John. I'm a for sure for Saturday afternoon and Sunday. I THINK I should be able to make it as early as Friday night this time around. Would be nice to attend the whole of one of your gatherings for a change. Thanks again. Shawn

I'd love to, but I'll be at f295 that weekend (and learning how to make a lens). So how many times have you seen those exhibits now? Definitely worth every visit.

Sorry to miss you Bethe. Hope we see you next event.
I am a slow learner. That is why I keep going back. At least that is what I tell Dolly when she catches me hanging around the cookie jar.

John

That is great. Maybe you will even get the tent up. That had to be uncomfortable sleeping in the car last time. Thanks for the enthusiasm.

John

John,

Sounds good. We have a final critique Sunday night for our upcoming group show, but should be able to make it down for Saturday morning to Sunday around noon hopefully.

Great! Will you be camping or moteling? The girls want to know where so they can crawl into bed with you after retrieving a stick in the pond.

John

my calendar has been marked!

Dorothy,

Nothing like a well marked calendar. Does that mean you will be coming? Should we round up the coyotes for a sneak attack? We want to see what you have been photographing and printing since last Fall.

John

I'm sure it will be a great time Joihn. I'll be sorry to miss this one. Heading north with the family that weekend... finally! Have a great time everyone!

I did set up a tent and comfy air mattress last time, John. Probably will again (thank you). Of course I've done the car thing a time or two and the old escort is more comfortable than you might think! Looking forward to it. I've got quite a few new prints to bring over (many from those awesome ledges of yours). Can't wait to see everyone's work as well.

Sorry to miss you this time, Bill. Hope you have a great trip up north.

And what's the deal? Is someone going to get up with me for sunrise shooting this go round or what?! =)

All the best. Shawn

Thanks Bill. Have some great family time.

Looks like I can make it. Camping or commuting isn't decided yet.

Looking forward to seeing everyone.

Shawn. Sunrise on those days is 5:59am. If I leave the house at 3:00 am and meet you at John's we could be at the ledges ready to shoot by sunrise. Rather than drive down to the campsite, I could just park in the driveway and honk 'til you show up. (Note to self: wear the kevlar.)

But in partial seriousness, if I'm camping, I might be up for some early shooting.

BTW, anyone interested in a Durst Laborator 1000 with multiple Schneider Componons (50, 60, 80, 100, 135)? $225 on Craigslist very near me. Let me know and I'll see if I can swing snagging it and holding it until John's event.

Thanks to John and Dolly for putting us up and putting up with us.

Lee

Dang! I'm trying to sell 2 Omega d3s - I don't need any more enlargers, but I still want it!
There's a D3 for sale on Craigslist even closer to me. I think it was $100-$200.
Do three D3's make a D9? Probably about right. Have to dig out the Caterpillar catalog.

We could level the camping area and enlarge the pond.

Note to self investigate Rocket Propelled Grenade Launcher relative to Kevlar.

Glad you are coming Lee.

So far we have had comments from APUG members who have visited at earlier gatherings enjoying the people and their prints. I want to be sure the APUG community understands that this is an effort for us to get to know each other and celebrate our shared interest in photography. Members are encouraged to join us and participate. The only thing exclusive about this is film photography.

The setting is a private home and yard, two miles from the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. For a better idea download the park map http://www.nps.gov/carto/PDF/CUVAmap1.pdf

A closer look is the Virginia Kendall Area http://www.nps.gov/cuva/planyourvisit/upload/VIRGINIA_KENDALL_UNIT_20041018.pdf

And specifically the Ledges Trail map http://www.nps.gov/cuva/planyourvisit/upload/LEDGES_Revision_perJennieV_20080414.pdf

where we plan to shoot. Naturally you are welcome to shoot anywhere you want, but most of us will be in the Ledges area. Bring copies of the maps with you.

P.S. for note to self ... bring spare windshield, mop, bucket.

Jeff, I have two D5's already, and that makes a D10. With a D10 we can move both the ledges and the ice cream parlor over to John and Dolly's place in pretty short order.

Miss a day and miss a lot; 3 pages of posts already. Must be a popular get-together I have been pre-occupied with a pesky Italian brake hose.

I hiked the "easy trail" near the Octagon a few years ago with the kids, but have never seen the ledges. So, I'm interested in checking it out!

Jeff, if you are still interested in that Melamine baseboard for the 8x10 Elwood PM me for logistics.

Definitely interested in the melamine, although it looks like it might be for a De Vere 5108 instead of an Elwood! I plan on bringing the Jeep, so it should fit in the back.

Eva says 8 enlargers is too many, so I have pared down to 5. 5 seems reasonable to me (but so did 8).

Hope you decide to camp then, Lee. The light in my favorite section of ledges is just awesome from sunup and for the next couple of hours. Of course I'm ALWAYS up for sunset shooting in the western section, John. I haven't really been over there except for the overlook.

Jeff, that's too funny!
