I saw an iris mount for barrel lenses in this classified ad on APUG. Does anyone know what they're called or where to get them?

A photo from the ad is here:

(there was a url link here which no longer exists)

I have searched extensively on Google, but without a name, it's a bit hard to track down, and "iris mount" and "iris lens mount" don't come up with anything useful. Thanks!

They are called iris diaphragms and they are rare. They arent made anymore. I wouldnt part with mine for anything.

I should say they arent made for view cameras anymore, in fact I'm not sure if that was the original use for the ones found on VCs or not (they're before my time). But perhaps a company that makes them for microscopes or other optical equipment could point you towards larger ones that would be useful for VC or perhaps they could custom make something.

There are still iris clamps made for optical testing. What they lack to be useful is a way of mounting them on a lens board, and (I think, but I'm not sure) size.

Iris clamps, or iris universal lens mount, seem to be the most common "names". But many sellers seem to think they're big apertures, so a search won't find much.

I wouldn't say they are rare, but you will often have to buy a whole camera to get one. They seem to be fairly common on German plate cameras from the first few decades of the 20th century - that's how I got two of mine. The first one I bought to use on a different camera, but found the included camera too nice to butcher. Did that once more, and then managed to find two without camera attached, and a small one with a big box of miscellaneous parts and pieces...

Got mine on eBay. They show up there pretty regularly, but generally receive spirited bidding.

You can also try Lens and Repro. They have some in stock and can mount them to a lensboard also.

There's one on e-bay

There's a nice one on e-bay for the next day and a half or so. It's listed by Dagor77 and if you do a search for Deardorff it will come up.
