I need some 1.5 liter wide-mouth storage bottles for black and white reversal chemistry (which includes a bleach made from sulphuric acid and potassium dichromate). Nalgene bottles from a laboratory supply house cost $20 each, but Nalgene bottles for drinking water cost $8 each or less. From their website, Nalgene's drinking water bottles are "copolyester", while their chemical storage bottles are polypropylene.

Yes I know the bottles are not amber, but that's not a problem because I keep all my solutions stored in closed cupboard. Can anyone think of a reason not to use these bottles?

I can't answer your question directly, but just throwing this out there: if amber glass bottles would work, I discovered that my nearby liquor store with a growler bar has 1.5L growlers for $5 each.

And if you have time for a drink or five before you start your project, well, you've got something to take some beer home in.

Just make sure to label them very clearly so no one takes a big swig.
