My Yashica T5 skips frames on film advance

I just put a new film in and noticed how the camera keeps skipping frames, which causes the film to be much shorter than it actually is.

What can i possibly do? My guess is that the film magazine (takeup spool) is not working properly. I wonder, what if i put a different DX code to the film cartridge with more exposures than the actual 36?

If i am not mistaken, all i would have to do then is simply count the actual numbers of photos that i took and rewind manually after 36, right?

You could try using tape to cover up the second row of the DX code. If your cameras uses this row to determine the number of exposures then I would think it would just assume 72 exposures. I think the problem is more mechanical with with your camera rather than DX related. Although I could be wrong. It would be the first time in my life but hey it could happen

One thing to keep in mind is that the T4 and T5 only decode the DX in orders of 100 if you are shooting film over 100 ISO. So if you want to use a film rated at 160 ISO it will set itself to 200 thus causing a bit of underexposure or say for FP4 it will set itself to 100 rather than 125 the rated ISO. It will also tend to under expose if you have the flash turned off in low light. It ops for a faster shutter speed rather than the best exposure.

I had a T5 for awhile but I became very frustrated with it's AF.

So what has happened??

1. Does the T5 even care about the DX coding of the number of frames? Many cameras rewind when they sense mechanically that the film does not advance when the wind motor tries to pull.
2. Even assuming the T5 knows about the DX-coded number of fames, a skipped frame is just... skipped, period. Even if you persuade the camera's microcontroller that the film has 50 frames, it will not return to that blank, unexposed frame that it skipped one week ago between frames #17 and #19.
