For those of you who have web sites, do you have a picture of yourself on the home page and if not, why not?
I am currently working on my own site and I am not sure if I should have a picture of myself on it. I wish to sell photographs so my picture is not relevant but then again it adds a personal touch.
A personal photo is a great thing on a website. I like to see how people look. I have a photo on my site, and when I launch my photo site later I will have a self-portrait there.
Depends on what it looks like. I'm not being flip; I don't have a website but I visit many and for me the tone of the personal photo can sometimes influence my reaction to the site. Perhaps only because I'm a photographer I like to see the person "at work." I react most poorly to a pretentious looking shot or one too artsy for words.
Slightly off topic, I like to be greeted by a page that features a single photo and a bit of text that tells me where I am and how to easily get to the person's work.
Elaborate flash openings with complex unlabeled navigation features drive me nuts!
There is a photo of myself buried in a "technical info" page on my website, but you really couldn't tell what I look like from it. On my academic site, it's all about text, so I don't think what I look like is really relevant. On my photo site, it's all about photos, and I don't do a lot of self-portraiture, so I don't think it's really relevant there either.
