I made a patent application blind folded because I did not want to lose time. Its about use of photochromic mass as a rewritable medium and expose inside with the help of a hologram or single radiation beam or crossed beams to create inside of a mass a lens element , elements or pin sieve.
When the photograph taken , lens element will be deleted with time and ready to new lens designs.
I found this idea 1996 at army and disclosure documented. After 14 years , I made another attemp and want to ask you what do you think ?
Hologram is able to create a 3D shape in one shot in one medium.

Outside of knowing that the application is photography, in some way, do you expect the process to influence the general consumer photographic industry, or is this a special application beyond the common conversations we have here and just what is that application?

Btw, I nominate you to go to the space station.

I must admit, a little over my head. Well, a lot. Could you spare a layman's explanation or would that be, like, way too long? If so, I understand. But good onya for applying for the patent. Fantastic.

I learned that you cant predict what you get or to be created with a new idea. And I dont know that this was a new idea or 50s forgotten idea. I learned that to search in patent databases only makes you sad or excited like a mad man.

Let me try to explain.
As you know there are new industrial part manufacturing technologies. Faster , impossible to cut with multi axis cnc lathe and cheaper.
This is called rapid prototyping or rapid production.
At rapid prototyping you create thin layers of plastics and stack them together and produce the plastic or metal part out of 3D computer model.
At 1994 , at 23 years old , working 14 hours a day , 6 or 7 days a week , one night , I realized that creating a inner structure inside of a material was a new idea .
I applied for a patent to british patent institute to create new car parts from chaotically complex stacked printed nanopowders with the help of instant sintering of electric current.
Now this idea is old idea for me but may be new idea for someone else.
Well as you write with a pencil , you can write inside of a mass with single beam , multi crossed beams or you can write inside of a material with 3 D hologram with the help of a hologram.
I always want to create my giant Soviet Lomo Square Front Anamorphic Cinema Lens and this new patent is one step closer.

If you can address each point, which should be in the nanometers range, I would think you could do what you are trying to do, with a transparent polymer. You might want to look into UV lithography used for making ICs but that could also present a problem if the liquid medium is UV-attenuative, as it might very likely reduce the depth of polymerization needed for a large lens structure.

Are there any rapid prototype shops where you can try it in the macro scale? Even if you could make a single element it would be worthwhile, I think. What if you could have it reverse back to the liquid state, then reconfigure at another focal length. The OSA has a lot of papers on adaptive optics that might interest you. Microsintering of nanopowders is also very very intriguing. Imagine if you could have a monolayer of nanopowder with a below-threshold sintering energy present before taking it over the threshold with a projected image! I think this could be done with powdered glass using your idea.

Also, are current photochromic glasses polarized, or can be? That way you might modulate them with crossed beams. It certainly should be possible to project and hold an optical image on a sheet of photochromic glass, but I wonder if it would be blurry.
