Hello all!

Found this beautiful-looking Yashica D TLR.

All speeds sound different (I know that sound does not mean accurate), close to what I understand they should be based on other mechanical cameras I have… again, I am aware it does not mean they are accurate.

I have one question related to the self timer… I place it on X, and after setting speed and cocking, I activate the self timer last, and shoot. The timer “works”, albeit longer than normal, with some erratic movement (runs-stops-runs)… I am assuming it might be a dried up lube issue.

Any feedback greatly appreciated; will be testing this weekend and I will be sure to share images.

Definitely sounds like dried lubricant.

Congratulations on your purchase, they are great cameras

Yeah, probably dry and dirty. Unless you really need the self-timer, best to simply not use it. Ideally, the full shutter could probably use a cleaning if the self-timer is dragging. Practically, if the speeds are pretty consistent, etc., just accept the dragging timer.

And yes, on X sync only. Although there is a mechanism to stop you from cocking the self-timer when the sync is on M, it doesn't take much for this to not work. And then you blow up the self-timer and the shutter won't fire.

Are you in the process of thorough cleanup? Took me some time to understand the first two pics

Yes, already cleaned and ready for this weekend's tryout.

The first two pics are the inside of the top lens/mirror area. All cleaned up, mirror super nice, lenses were very nice in and out, and viewing screen is impeccable. I really think it is not worth fiddling anymore with it for now, as it seems all is good (other than the erratic self-timer issue). Seems someone had cleaned the camera before and forgot a strand of cotton in there on the mirror bracket.

Third pic is with the mirror in place, thus why you see the upper lens and its mirror image...

All in all, I had my doubts, but VERY happy as soon as received. The seller was not very familiarized with the camera, had not tested it, replied to all of my emails with questions and what to look for, but for the price, it would've made a great display piece if damaged.

I also got a Yashica D with the Yashikor lens.
It came in the mail with a mirror that was just thrown into the camera (and a corner broke off) and missing screws.
I replaced the screws, cleaned and fitted the mirror – fortunately the broken part is at the very edge of the screen.

I shot a roll of Fomapan 100 through it – beautiful – in handling and image quality.
It is a lot of fun – plus it is nice and quiet.
