I just bought a little $5 LED night light for our hallway:

same as the one here: http://www.lightbulbs-direct.com/variant_detail.asp?var=3562

I turned it on and the LED has an amber glow possibly identical to my Nova LED darkroom safelight system! I plan to do a safelight test soon to see if it's darkroom safe. If so I'm going to buy 6 or 7 of these things, stick them in a cheap power strip and add another bank of light to my darkroom. They even have a head that swivels around for adjustment. I'll post the results soon.

Sean,

From what I've seen, most amber LEDs run at about 580-590 nm and will work well as "yellow" or OC style safelights I use them in my darkroom, but run them off a 12VDC power supply that I can step down to 9, 7.5, 6, 4.5, and 3 VDC for lower output if necessary.
