My Mamiya Won't Focus to Inifinity!

Hmm, I see what you're saying but I think for now I'm going to have to stick with what I have...after looking at the prices haha. I paid about $205usd for the 645E and being a college student without a real income, yeah. I started looking at the ProTL at the beginning but I ended up getting studio lights instead. I've already gotten a fair amount of work out of them so I think it was worth it. I'll probably have to stick with what I have now but until I have a real income I'll probably just have to stick with this.

Also, I'll search around but what does the grid screen help with? It's not just a grid is it? Is it easy to explain how some are better suited for close up? As I said (or maybe as you figured) this is basically my first medium format and before now I've just used 35mm and specifically a camera where I can't change anything else besides the normal SLR stuff.

The grid screens help you make sure that your image is, or at least appears to be level or vertical or square (as circumstances require).

Some of the other screens are more usable when the circumstances or equipment make it impractical to use split image or microprism focus aids (such as stopped down photography, with shift lenses or bellows). In addition, screen patterns and focus aids are acquired tastes - some people just prefer some choices over others. Whether or not one screen type will appeal to you more than others is hard to predict - it's best, if possible, to try a few, and then decide for yourself.

One other point, if you can change the screen, it means you can easily clean the screen. There is almost nothing more irritating than dust and dirt trapped on a fixed screen (how does it get in there anyways:confused: )

The price you paid for the 645E is good. Have fun.

Hi everyone.

Have the same problem here.
I've bought my 645e on eBay from the US seller and its viewfinder shows no infinity, although at the film plane it's OK.
I will not ship it back because in that case I should pay for the shipping and it's expensive here in Russia where I live
I have searched through the internet for similar problem discussions and that thread is the only one I found.

I intend to try to fix this by myself as I have some basic experience in camera repair.
Would the pics of disassembly process be useful here?
Sadly, I had no success trying to find any service or repair manual or disassembly guide for the 645e so I'll be all alone.

BTW, I found that 645e HAS INTERCHANGEABLE focusing screen!
Remove the lens and look inside up along the lens mount plane. You'll see small metal "L"-shaped hook that locks front edge of the screen frame. Gently pull it to the left with a toothpick or something and it will release the frame with the screen giving you the ability to take the screen out for cleaning or replacement.
