My first Minox 35Gt roll...

Hi guys!

Last year I bought a nice Minox 35Gt and made some rolls.... But the first one remained alone undeveloped, until last week.
So, these are my first shots ever with the Minox. Not bad for a first time....

Nice! These minox cameras are really tiny. How much can you get one for nowadays?

I don't know. She looks kinda stiff to me.

They are nice. Be aware of one issue though. The shutter may fail even though it sounds like it's working. The fix is documented somewhere and is doable by a careful amateur.

I bought mine, with a nice leather case for about 50€.... Not so cheap indeed....

Yep, you're right..... I wrote about shutter's issues it in my blog post. It has been suggested to me to check the shutter with back open each time before loading a roll... at least to lessen the probability of that shutter fail....

I have one which I bought new about 20 years ago...it has been an excellent pocket camera with no problems until last year when the shutter failed in just that way. Sounds like it's working, but random blank frames. The "feel" of these cameras can actually seem very delicate and plastic-ky. (I believe they were actually made by the old Balda factory, unlike the metal sub-miniatures made by Minox themselves ?)

I was also given a Minox ML a few years ago, and, while the shutter is fine, there is a definite unsharpness in the results....I suspect that the folding panel or the moving lens panel has been mis-treated in some way, though the camera actually looks in mint condition.

My own feeling is that, given the light construction and the present age of the earlier models, I'd probably not now buy another s/h one at this stage.

I have had Minox 35 GT for almost thirty years and have had absolutely no problems with it, the 35mm f2.8 Minotar lens on it puts the lenses on most S.L.R's to shame, the first test report I read on it when it came out said " we had to test the lens three times because the results were so good we didn't believe them ".

Yep, I agree...! The Minotar performance is what convinced me to buy a Minox. I saw many great shots around and was amazed by the quality of that small lens.

I've had 20" X 16" enlargements from the Minotar lens that I had done as an experiment years ago that were at least as good as ones taken with my Canon FD 35mm f2 lens.

In my experience, sharpness and contrast were excellent.

The camera was eminently pocketable, hence would come with you rather than being left at home The excuse for missed opportunities " did not intend to take any pictures and left the heavy stuff behind" is a frequent cause for regrets. Motives do not wait for you to consult menus and twiddle dials, so its auto function was useful.

I did, however, in the past have two ELs with their shutters quitting, so I gave them up and got the more mechanical than electrical Rollei 35 as my pocket companion.
