My exhibition "As Long As There's Music" opening June 9 at Meyer Gallery

I'd like to plug my upcoming exhibition at Meyer Gallery in Sydney. All APUGers are invited to come along to the opening on Wednesday evening, June 9, from 6pm. So, if you are in Sydney and you can make it, please come along for a glass of wine and introduce yourself if we haven't met before!

The attached press release contains more details about the exhibition and information including gallery location, website and phone numbers.

If you can't make the opening I will be in the gallery on Sat & Sun June 19/20 between 11am - 5pm.

Hi Tony, I'll pop in later in the show when it's quieter. I never could figure out how to grab shots of performers and have never tried: no light, little control of the always moving subject. I talked to a photographer covering many of the recent International Society of Contemporary Music festival performances and all I could think of was the prevalence of black clothing worn by the artists.

I see that you have covered Gordon U's boy, who probably moves too fast for Gordon's 8x10.

I have never understood why most musicians where black on stage. There is usually low level lighting and a black backdrop so all you see are an instrument, a pair of hands and a face!

Well I figure that the music's the thing and discreetly coloured clothing distracts less. Then again I attended a performance of Mahler's "Song of the Earth" at the Sydney Opera House this week, and the male players wore (black) tails, white shirts and bow ties while the conductor, Vladimir Ashkenazy, wore a suit (black again) and a white polo neck formal shirt.

However black seems to be the new and the old black in classical music circles, no matter how recent the composition, although the women appaer to be allowed a little latitude.

Hi John - I thought it was great but I suppose I would think that wouldn't I! Nice crowd, some very positive feedback and one red dot! Teamed up with another photographer/musician to play a few old blues tunes as well and that's always a thrill for me. Fellow APUGers Jeff and David came along which was very nice. It's a great learning experience and I think I've become a better photographer after each exhibition I've done, so looking forward to throwing myself into the next project.
I am doing an artist's talk at 2pm on Sunday June 20 if anyone is interested in coming along to have a look and say hello. I'll also be in the gallery all day on Sat June 19.

I have just had a look through the gallery link. There is some very nice stuff there. I have known Bob Brozman for about twenty years and he has played here on our little island three or four times.

When myself and some friends got into National guitars we managed to arrange some local gigs when he happened to be in England.
