My camera takes wonderful pictures

Mine doesn't. What am I doing wrong? Or do I need a better camera?

Steve.

This reminds me of a girl that contacted me once, she wanted to be a photographer and asked if she could assist me. She showed me her "portfolio" consisting of vacation shots and boring snaps around town, all straight from the camera I might add. I took pity on her and brought her on an editorial fashion shoot, afterwards I bought her dinner and I tried to give her some tips, but I could tell she was pretty much convinced that she was already an accomplished photographer (she had sold one of her photos of a building facade to an AD agency after all). As expected I never heard from her again, about a year later though I hear she started a company and even got grant money for "most promising business idea of the year", the idea you ask? She started a website where other companies can upload a brief detailing photographs they need while paying little to no money and then have average joe who think it's "fun to take pictures" bid on the assignment. Needless to say I facepalmed.

So, I can't improve my photography by purchasing a more expensive camera?

What about using a different film? Won't my prints be much better then?

So where can I get one of those 9~900mm zooms??

"Owning your own camera doesn't make you a photographer any more than flossing your own teeth makes you a dentist."

Instant classic!

I bet if he had an iPhone 4s, she'd be hummin a different tune. All those apps to make your photos into ART!

I always say that having a Stradivarius makes you a Stradivarius owner, not a violinist.

You'll need a film that makes wonderful negatives, and an enlarger and paper that make wonderful prints. Don't forget, to use the enlarger, you'll need electricity that makes wonderful light.

different film, different lens, different camera, different enlarger, different chemistry ..
it is that the eye ( and maybe micro brain surgery ) transplants will cost a lot of money

you know ... so you can SEE different

Have any of you heard of this about photographers. "Without a portfolio, they're just a gypsy with a camera."

I always got a laugh: It's the Rolls-Royce Owners Club, but the Bentley Drivers Club.
People who own Rolls-Royce cars have chauffeurs, Bentleys were the considered to be a sports car version of the marque, and more likely be driven by the owner.
