That's funny, John. And very true. If you've been at this long enough (for me over 40 years), there are those little things. You just reminded me of my dodging wand. I cut it from a wire hanger about 40 years ago. Can't get rid of it even though I've been given "fancy" dodging wands...

jnanian, you reminded me of a couple more things.

a one-gallon stainless steel pot that I use to mix chemicals, and the water-driven magnetic stirrer.

both very low cost. the pot was from Ross (a seconds store) and I think the stirrer set me back 50 cents at a rummage sale.

nice thing about having my own mixing pot is I don't have to keep secrets from my family any more (about what I've been doing with the Revere-ware)...

Light meters seem to be very dear to people's hearts. I have acquired several but use my Leningrade constantly. It is accurate, simple and very tough.

For me it would be my Kodak type 3 process thermometer and my Peak grain focuser. I dont know why but i protect them as if they were newborn children!

When I used to work in a darkroom, it was my dodging tools. Made life so much easier and there'd be a few that got the lions share of the work. Also really loved the gizmo the lab had that sent out 24/7 tik toks. No timers , just the beat.
