Being more of a tele shooter with my RB, found I needed a 65mm for an upcoming project. SOL on KEH, let's try eBay. Lots of from-Japan glass with minor fungus - guess its humid there? US estate-sale guy with zero photo knowledge had a 65 and a 127 (another hole in my lineup), untested but looked clean. $100 for the pair… oh, the suspense.
I'll be damned - after all the fogged-black vintage lith paper I've bought on eBay, these babies purr like new. The 65 had some tiny tendrils of fungus towards one edge - pulled the elements and they cleaned right out, no etching on the glass. Aperture & shutter blades look like new.
No sh*t!!! I thought I used up all my good luck on a nice, sane wife and some really nice kids!!! (OK, wife #2, but she's out of warranty now and I'm keeping her - she'll even do the occasional nude if I'm shooting film!)

Hey Paul, I dug out my notes from your RB 180 teardown coaching to open these new lenses up. Pulling the elements let me get that bit of fungus and get everything shiny-clean. In fact, they came out so clear (shining a penlight through the lens showed almost no specks), I pulled out all my other RB glass and had a cleaning day. VERY satisfying!!!
So thanks again for your help, the gift that keeps on giving!!
