Hi Folks

I am working on a rather large personal project and need to select paper.

Currently I have tested Ilford Warmtone and Ilford Coldtone matte.
I like both.

Is there any other paper that you could suggest that is available currently and probably over the next 5-10 years that is in roll with 100ft x 30 or 42 or 50 as well as smaller cut sheet sizing that you could suggest.
I will not accept 30 ft lengths as they curl too much and basically too much waste .
I am tri - toning solarized prints and I still to this day have not hit the perfect look and maybe changing papers is the call.

What I do like about the Harmon line is its predictability and perfect repeatability but maybe there is another option that I try before I commit to printing this project.
all suggestions appreciated and welcome

Hi,

Well, 5-10 years is a long time, and I am not sure if any company in the analog photo business is guarantee to be around...

For mural paper you have the Adox MCC 110 in 1.05 m x 10 m and 1.05 M x 30 m and I also think that they can do other sizes on demand. Personal i love that paper, think warmtone but on a really white base, I have both used it with neutral, cold and warmtone developer and its superb, give it a try. More info can be found here: http://www.adox.de/english/ADOX_Papers/MCC/MCC.html

cheers

Bob, Agfa offers their new multicontrast PE-paper in glossy in 100feet rolls up to 28" wide, in semi matt up 36" wide.
Also in semi-matte in 500feet rolls 10" wide.

You also might consider asking any manufacturer about selling you a shorter lenght of a full width roll and slicing it yourself.

these Agfa or Adox papers say planned. I have been asking Mirko for three years now about his paper in mural size to no avail.
Are these long rolls actually available?
I need fibre paper.

I've been using Ilford MGIV fiber matte finish. It falls between the cold tone & warm tone you've tried. Tones well, and will probably be around as long as any other paper. I roll process the paper, and like this one because it's double weight seems a bit sturdier than other double weights I've tried, if that makes any sense. I trust Ilford to be around as long as anyone and, like you, want a paper I can make a long term commitment to.
As an aside, but does anyone know if there's an industry standard for what constitutes double weight? My experience seems to be that it's an arbitrary designation by the manufacturers.

They may be on stock in Flanders, but not at the dealers. Contact Agfa.
For principle reasons Agfa does not coat on barytated paper!

I agree with the other people, I also believe that Ilford will probably hang around longest (I love there products) but Adox is a really really good paper also, and a bit cheaper.

Roles are available, you can order here:
30 m: http://www.fotoimpex.de/shop/fotopa...0-m-premium-line-glaenzendes-barytpapier.html

10 m: http://www.fotoimpex.de/shop/fotopa...0-m-premium-line-glaenzendes-barytpapier.html

2-3 days they say and its a fiber based paper

cheers

I made a typing error:

It must be 48" 1.22m for the glossy paper.

I've been using Ilford MGIV fiber matte finish. It falls between the cold tone & warm tone you've tried.

What Ilford "Coldtone" paper are you both referring too? According to the Ilford Photo website, they only carry fibre based papers in the Ilford MGIV (glossy and matte) and Ilford MGFB Warmtone (glossy and semi-matte) variant, no paper specifically designated as "Coldtone"?? There is only an RC variant specifically marketed as "Cooltone"...

Or are you both referring to Ilford MGIV fibre glossy finish paper (the most common sold as far as I can tell) as the "Coldtone" variant?

Is there any other paper that you could suggest that is available currently and probably over the next 5-10 years that is in roll with 100ft x 30 or 42 or 50 as well as smaller cut sheet sizing that you could suggest.

Well, since you are already using Ilford papers, why not try the Kentmere Fineprint VC Glossy paper also produced by Harman? It is not listed as available in rolls, but since it is the same company, they might be able to deliver it...

In addition, the FOMA papers seem to come in rolls. I haven't tried them, but according to all I read here on APUG, they should be excellent as well, and it is still on my list of "things-to-try-out" to get some. In addition, FOMA is AFAK the only manufacturer currently producing a paper variant on a very warm "chamois" paper base:

I too like this paper and it very well end up being the paper of choice.

Marco - I refer to it as coldtone which just helps me not mistake it with warmtone.

I use all three offerings MG4 matte and glossy as well as the Warmtone glossy,
I never got use to the warmtone matte paper

I am only interested in 100ft rolls for reasons that become apparent when you are working in the darkroom.
I do not think the Kentmere paper comes in large rolls.
maybe I am wrong.

this comes as a complete shock to me as I have been Emailing this company for three years for mural paper .

Maybe I pissed them off and I am on their ignore list.
Are you completely sure this paper is fibre and comes in 100ft rolls, since it is safelight compatable I can cut down the roll to any width I need.

Regarding this agfa paper , is it new coated paper or just old stock that has been pulled out of a freezer?

The Fotoimpex site clearly states "barytared paper base" and "30m roll".

It has been stated here some time ago that the current Agfa paper has the same emulsion as the Adox MCP RC.
And I assume that at least the first large batch coating of the Adox paper was done at Agfa.
(Unless Mirko should object against this.)

The Agfa paper is offered in a wider roll.

The Adox emulsion has been made new and thus the Agfa one.
Or the other way round...

(It would be fine if you would accept PM's...)

too many people dislike me so I disabled it. sorry

so they are both current emulsions eh?
