Hi all,
I'm using an LPL 6700 colour enlarger to print monochrome negs onto multigrade. It doesn't have an above the lens filter drawer for multigrade filters, so I'm using Ilford's recommended filter settings on the head for each grade. Rather than using the single filter settings (i.e. 25M for grade 3), I'm using the dual filter settings to even out the exposure time differences between grades (i.e. 23Y/56M for grade 3). How do people find these, are they generally accurate or is it better to use the single filter settings with shorter exposure times that vary between grades, or just give up on these and get a below the lens filter set?

My own feeling and tests is that most prints work best for me at and indicated Grade 3 as a good starting point on this enlarger.

Either works. Single filter times are shorter.

When using any method, only the grey tone is correct grade to grade. When you go up , the whites go lighter and black go darker. When you go down,, the reverse happens.
Now assume you are using a white or near white to control print density, when increasing contrast you need to make a longer exposure. If the base exposure is controlled by black, you need to shorten time.
Reverse above if lowering contrast.

My combination times are from a copy of Leica Photography late 1980`s and probably will not work with your filters.
