I need to get a 'material data safety sheet' for using amidol but can't find it under the chemicals listed. Does it have a proper name, or does someone have a URL for the MSDS? Thanks.

I've used the stuff for years but have a project for a museum to print (on Azo) some old glass plates. They aren't using their darkroom any more due to safety and health issues. So they needed these MSDS docs, an act of the museum board, parliment and then probably asking Congress (or George) for permission. (Australians are a bit nonplused or at least bemused by our national suck-up to the States).
It all seems way over the top in precaution. I think living under a beuorocratic blanket like these people do would smother a person.

David, when I was searching for an Amidol MSDS recently most I found didn't have full details (most were missing the transportation details section) but ended up finding an Australian based Co with one. Don't seem to have the link bookmarked here at work but if you want it I will find it at home.

ok, I'm in for a pound in the China Syndicate too. I've never used the stuff so didn't want to commit to much, however if I like it I'm going to regret only ordering a little bit... Are there any special requirements to get it through customs at this end?

I'm in one of the syndicates making up the min order sizes for the Amidol. I've been meaning to find out if there's any special requirements to import it so I don't have to go and explain about a powdery substance to Mr Plod! I imagine all sorts of things get sent through the mail... just rather it's not mine that gets opened and a please explain is required!

I just got a reply back from the Australian Customs Service regarding importing amidol. They had this to say:
David,
There are no Customs restrictions on this chemical, you may wish to contact
the National Industrial Chemicals Notification Scheme (NICNAS) to find out
if they have any interest in the importation of this material, they can be
contacted on 02 8577 8800 or at www.nicnas.gov.au .
I have the details of the guy who responded and can send them to you in a pm if you require.
