Yes, I came up with a way for YOU to choose your own theme. A polyptych is a set of two or more photographs that are meant to be viewed all together as a set. Probably the most common is a view or panorama separated into panels, or the same view taken in different seasons, but it can also be a set of photographs that are related in a more abstract way. The parts might be different aspects of the same subject, or they might all share a theme, or they might even be opposites of each other.

A set of 2 is a diptych
A set of 3 is a triptych
A set of 4 is a quadriptych ( I hope someone makes one because the word is ridiculous )
A set of 5 is a pentaptych
... ...

Your assignment:

Please make two or more photographs that are meant to be viewed together at the same time.

The only rule is:

Don't tell us what your theme is or why the photos are together.
Let us see or discover or feel it for ourselves
.

Please interpret as narrowly or broadly as you want.... if the only connection between the parts is in your own mind, that's enough.
  • photographs should be taken in September or October 2017.
  • upload the sets into this thread and/or the MSA gallery
  • a lucky winner will be chosen on or soon after November 1st
  • the "chosen one" will pick and judge the next theme
Guidelines for MSA are here:
https://www.photrio.com/forum/index...gnment-msa-guidelines-revised-2015-07.126124/

There is one other rule I forgot to mention, most important of all: enjoy the assignment and have fun with it!

An intriguing idea Ned. I look forward to seeing the submissions.
By the way, at least for now the rules remain unchanged about submissions originating only on film or other analogue media.
As do the rules limiting digital post-processing.

Boy got the wheels turning, never done anything like this... a very creative adventure. What's wonderful, as always, you can try several different scenarios, but have to come up with the first one to break the ice. :smile:
Hmmmm ... ..

Oh thank you. This rule should apply to every photograph. Nothing ruins my enjoyment (if there was any) than having to read what a photographer intended to portray.

The following is not eligible for this MSA, because I shot these two weeks too early!
But they are so perfect for it, I just had to show them.
The reason these photos are together couldn't be more obvious, but I'll just mention that:
1) there are two very different cameras involved, and neither camera has any focus aids;
2) the more featured camera is around 50 years old, and the simpler camera was made last year.
3) both cameras can take the same film, although in this example one had colour film in it while the other had black and white film in it;
4) the two shots were taken one after the other, and the same tripod was used;
5) one of the shots was exposed for three minutes, at f/207 (our generous and dear friends are both great hosts, and great sports).

Thanks Sly and Marttiko!
Sly's has an obvious follow-along to make a hexaptych... I'll be there for dinner around 6, okay? :smile:

I've been working on my own quadriptych ( not eligible of course ) but it's not quite working yet....

That's wonderful Lillian.
And so "Rathtrevor".
Just to be mischievous, here are a couple more from me - also ineligible because they were taken near the end of August.
They are mischievous because they were taken in Lillian's "hood".
I feel guilty that I wasn't able to stop in and say "hi".

Another one!

This and my previous post are my first tries on a certain old technique. That's all I can say without revealing too much!

I'm loving this -- from everyone! I'm going to have to choose?? :cry:

What's a "hemispheric pinhole"??

( my attempt is going to be pinhole too.... but I have to build a new camera for it... 1st try wasn't exactly what I was hoping for )
