Don, Don, Don, they are not rocks by the railway tracks, they are the ballast!!!

I recognised the ballast immediately, the shards of sleeper timber in the bottom left corner gave it away.

Perhaps it could be titled, "Shard-Don-Eh?

All jokes aside, a very neat view of what would mostly go unnoticed.

Mick, those are nice rocks - the ballast is mostly slag from smelting operations (but on the other side of the tracks) and recycled concrete (including granite countertops). It's a bit of a mess.

But, yes, they're the rail bed.

Speaking of railways ... how about an antipattern ... which is kind of a pattern in its own right.

Fuji GA-645Zi, Tri-X @ ASA 400, Pyrocat 1.5:1:200, EMA, 2 min initial agitation, 15 seconds @ 21 and 41 minutes, 60 minutes total. Scan of silver print:

This has been a very productive and rich MSA; choosing will be very difficult!

I apologize; health and other issues barred me me from producing the images I wished to include, but there are many sterling examples to choose from.

Winner will be determined on the evening of the 31st (my local time) and posted on the 1st of June (ditto).

Hasselblad 501c with 80mm f/2.8 lens and Minolta IV light meter
Kentmere 120, 400 rated at box speed
Exposure was 1/250th at f/19
Developed using Barry Thornton's two-bath D23 and sodium metaborate at 72.5F/22.5C
Multitone RC pearl paper exposed for 10.5 seconds at f/22 with a 2.5 Ilford Multicontrast filter and developed in Liquidol 1:9, Sprint vanilla stop and Hypam fixer

The Winner of this Month's MSA is Chuckroast.

The combination of luminous, regular shapes in a chaotic arrangement spoke to me and I kept coming back to the image.

Many beautiful images in this submission, but I had to choose only one.

Congratulations Chuckroast!
